Just wondering... I'm looking for a wet tumbler and media. I was on the harbor freight Web site and they have 5 pound bags of ceramic tumbling media that's relatively inexpensive compared to stainless steel.

I was wondering if anybody out there has experimented with ceramic media. Is the ceramic small enough to fit in the cases? Is it too rough on the brass or not rough enough?

Thanks

I’ve had ceramic media for around 10 years. It works great and make the brass look new inside and out. I have two kinds pellets and spheres. They don’t clean the primer pockets but for everything else they are great. I’m thinkg of going to stainless steel for a couple reasons 1) to clean primer pockets and 2) so I can use the magnet to pick them up.

If the SS pins are truly stainless steel you're out of luck with the magnet...........

What is true stainless steel? There are quite a few different grades of SS, some magnetic and some not. Lots of pins used for SS tumbling I have seen can be picked up with a magnet.

There are many grades of stainless with many being ferromagnetic. The media is this type. Works fine.

Edit: Guess I'm too slow.

Stick with stainless steel media because that is what the manufactures recommend and works best. And remember the longer you wet tumble the more the cases hit the case mouth and peen the mouth.

Below on the left a .223 case that was wet tumbled too long and peened the case mouth. And on the right a new case right out of the bag and the effects of factory tumbling.

What method of drying cases are you guys using, and how long are you wet tumbling?
I'm thinking of switching from my vibratory tumbler.
