new to reloading , how long does tumbler media last , it isn`t a price issue i`ve cleaned about 2500 40 and 45 casings, done the dryer sheet tumble just wondering what the life expectancy is. thanks

I use rice with Brasso, or dilute expensive factory media with rice. Also works well to remove that red dust that sometimes sticks to brass from factory media. Only downside is that it can stick in the flash holes. I just pop it out with a nail.

You can buy blasting media (crushed walnet shell) from a sand blasting supply company for about 20 -25$ for 50 pounds. Should last quite a while.

I got about ten pounds of walnut shell from a source via the oil patch but don't know how they used it. Was visiting a friend today, and he had washed his media. Surprised how much crud was in it. It was still drying when I got there, and looked almost new.

Life is way too short to wash and dry tumbling media.......

We use walnut shell on the rigs for lost circulation material. It comes in different grits, fine doesn't plug flashholes. It probably costs a dollar to change my media, it would be a cold day in hell before I'd wash it.

It wouldn't help if you washed it, its worn out and needs to be tossed. Once all the tiny sharp edges are worn off, thats it.
