i have always used lymans treated corncob media for tumbling brass and while it does a good job i wanted to know if untreated corncob media does a good job at cleaning the brass? i hate having green hands and green powder residue all over!

I use a two media method.. Couple of hours wth untreated corncob to get the major crud, then an hour or two with crushed walnut (pet store) and a bit of polish (Dillon, Lyman, Peek..).. clean, and plenty slippery enough for resize (pistol).

I use walnut ( pet store or Princess Auto ), a capfull of Nu-Finish car polish and a half a used dryer sheet ( cut into 1-2 inch squares ). Tumble for 3-4 hours, very clean brass and no mess.

Walnut media here, by itself for 2 hrs, then a cup of nufinish and another 1hrs.
I change media every 3-4th tumble load.

I just used corn cob pet bedding I only load pistol and 30 cal. of large rifle brass so the size isn't a issue I add two cap fulls of NuFinish mixed in to the initial batch of media. I tumble mine for about 30 min. on average with primers in just to remove any carbon or crud to keep it out of my dies.

After resizing and cleaning the primer pockets I toss it back in for another hour to finish cleaning and remove any case lube before loading. I usually don't have to add anymore polish till about the forth or fifth use and then it's only one cap full and it's good for several more uses before it needs anymore.

I like to throw in a couple strips of used dryer sheet also which will collect dust, brass particles, burned and unburned powder residue to help keep the media cleaner and last longer.

I bought 50 pounds of corncob through a sand blasting company for $33. Works just great in a tumbler! The price is right. Don't know if it's treated or not.....seems very clean. Hope that's helpful.
