Hey what's everyone using for media and how long to you leave the brass in? I tried corn cob media that came with the tumbler and after an hour or so there wasn't much noticeable change. Should I add a polishing compound to the corn stuff?
 
I use the green corn cob media. Never really timed how long I leave it in there. Never less than a couple of hours, usually more :D. I'm not looking for super shiny brass, just cleaned of dirt & powder residue. I have tried the red walnut shell media, but didn't like all the dust :(

New media doesn't need polishing compound. 2 hours if everything is moving in the polisher. If you over stuff it, nothing moves, so nothing gets cleaned. If you under fill it it doesn't work as well either. The media needs to be flowing up the outside edge and falling into the middle. A 2 cup measuring cup full, is ideal for the amount of brass to add to the polisher. Or a large tomato or soup can full.
New media 2 - 3 hours of polishing. As the media gets older the length of time polishing must increase. After 10 lots of brass polished I add meguires polishing compound to the mix, after I have thrown in some rag strips to remove the dust from the mix.
 
I use a 50/50 blend of green corn cob and walnut with the rouge in it. Rotary tumbler for about 2 hours, comes out super shiny. If I overstuff it with casings I'll leave it for 4 hours. Works great for me
 
I don't use walnut/corncob anymore... Quit this week.

I now use the wet stainless method... Highly reccommended.
I'd post pics of the brass after it's been cleaned , but I'm afraid I'd blind ya.
 
This cheap tumbler I got came with a bag looks like corn media. I have it in longer now. It seems to clean but not really shine. The bowl is about 2/3s full and I have 70 2506 brass pieces in there. The box said it would take 300 9mm casings. Will see how it comes out after a few hours. Thanks

Its ridiculous how clean and shiny your brass is. It really dosn't have to be this clean but sure looks nice.
