Tumblers vs sonic cleaners

I just picked up the 40+ years of handloader on DVD and was searching for an article on a Mauser rifle and stumbled on the front page of an early '70s handloader edition showing a rock tumbler. The barrel was open with shiny brass and guess what they were using as the media, small steel bearings. Looks like the method was "invented" 40 years ago and not 2 years ago.

Whats old will eventually be new again.

667 do you happen to have plans for that ? Also how much water do you add and how do you know how much SS media to use?

Thanks

The plans are in my head...

There is a very informative thread over at ar15.com with several home built contraptions on display... That's where I steal most of my ideas. I went with the plywood base because it's what I had on hand and it's easy to work with. I've been running it for about a year and so far... so good.
I will get around to building one from steel and having it welded up, but that's something I'll have to job out. I don't know how to weld and I don't own the gear to do it.
