Hi.
Im trying to find out what type of media would work best for tumbling 223 rem.
Im currently using crushed walnut and I find it hard to get out of the cartridges after, It gets stuck inside.

Im thinking I would either need media that has large kernels that wouldn’t get inside the cartridge or maybe media with really small kernels that would spill out easily?

any ideas as to what media would work nicely with the small 223 rem?
Thank you.

Got a food processor? That'll reduce the size. Or go to a pet supply place and buy a great big bag of crushed corn cobs or walnut shells. Both are sold as small pet bedding. Usually under $20 for a 20 kilo or so bag.

What size crushed walnut do you use? If your using any of the name brand stuff (Lyman, RCBS, etc...) it should come out with a tap (it tends to bottleneck inside the case sometimes), or buy yourself a rotary media separator if you really want to make things easier on yourself.

Thank you for the info, im off to petsmart to pick up some walnut.
One more question. What would you be adding to it as a polish? Any recommendations?
Thanks.

"...adding to it as a polish..." Nothing. Brass needs to be clean, not polished. Brasso, for example, has ammonia in it. That's not good for long term use with brass. Some guys use car polish, but you really don't need it.

Yes, but then it's not as "tactical". Spray-paint your brass matt black.

Or go to a craft store and get some chemicals that will turn the brass black. I forget which chemical it is but it looks pretty cool. I did it on a test case at a buddies house. His wife uses the chemicals to change the metal colors on her stained glass that she makes.

The only problem is that it etches into the surface only and will easily get worn off with a vigorous polish in the tumbler.
