Hey guys, I have reloaded and shot my first batch of 500 .223 shells over the weekend-no duds/squibs! All your help has been much appreciated! Now I am going to be starting to tumble my brass. I have a Lyman 1200 Pro. Calibers I will be using range from .38sp - 300WSM. Corn cob or walnut-or both? I have read to use bounce drier sheets and a bit of brasso also.


I realize stainless steel is the best and down the road I will likely make that upgrade but for now this one should do just fine, any feedback is appreciated, thanks again.
 
If you are using the Lyman rejuvenator you shouldn't even consider Brasso....I have used it in the past to bring spent media back to life but I found it a pain in the ass. No matter how you add it or how little you add at a time seemed to make a difference. For the first few batches it is a pain to get out of the case when you are done tumbling, because it is damp.

Some people have warned against it as it contains ammonia which can supposedly make your brass brittle... I never noticed any ill effects on my brass.

The dryer sheets are worthwhile too...
 
Lately, I have been using Silvo in my walnut media since they changed the formula for Brasso. The new Brasso in the plastic squeeze bottle isn't quite as good as the old stuff, whereas Silvo is unchanged. The amount of ammonia in either is not enough to damage your brass; a couple of spoonfuls per load is all you use.

The SS media works pretty good by all accounts, but keep in mind that you will be wet tumbling with it and will have to dry your brass.

I use a Lyman vibratory cleaner with walnut shells and a tablespoon of Brasso.....comes out cleaner than new.......
 
I use the following for tumbling:

- Walnut media 90-95%
- white rice 5-10%
- every once in a while I throw a bit of metal polish in.
- bounce sheets, swiffer sheets or even peices of paper towel do the job keeping media conditioned

i have just started tumbling brass my self.i am using corn cob pet litter with some nu finish car polish mixed into it with the dryer sheets to check te dirt.
 
Save a bundle, go to a pet store and get some stuff they sell for (not kidding) lizard cages. Same crushed walnut shell at about a quarter of the price.

Dryer sheets work.
 
Save lots of $$$ on media, Princess Auto has walnut media

Go to Princess Auto (if there is one near by), 50 lb bag of crushed walnut media is $29.00, it will last a lifetime. I thank the CGN'rs who passed this on to me a couple of months back.
