I have a Marlin 30/30 that shot tumling bullets. Here is the original thread:

"I have a Marlin 336 lever action rifle in 30/30 with a micro groove barrrel. I shot different brands of ammo and they all seem to tumble. I first tried Hornady Leverevolution ammo and all 20 rounds hit the target sideways. Other brands like Wichester also tumbled. I tried Federal ammo and it is the best, but they also tumble slightly. I know how to clean barrels and this was cleaned thoroughly, even used copper fouling remover. Barrels looks good and the crown appears good. Any one else have this problem? Is the barrel shot out? "

I took the rifle to a gunsmith and he found that this rifle is chambered for 30/30 but has a .32 Special barrel. I know now why the bullets were tumbling.

Is it chambered for 30-30 or is the barrel simply stamped that cartridge...? Possibly it is chambered for 32 Special...

Considering 32 special is a 30-30 necked up for a .321 bullet that would make it quite simply chambered in 32 special. What was stamped on the barrel?

A 30/30 definitely would not work well neither would shooting .32 spcl in this would either, as the chamber would be OK up to the shoulder but would be different with the .32 as the overall diameter with the bullet seated would be larger than the .30 cal.

My bet is it is a 32 caliber barrel chambered for the 32 Winchester and incorrectly stamped 30-30 Winchester.

Much like the guys who could not geet their 7mm Remington mag to shoot. Hit the target once at 25 yardes and the bullet had key holed. Fired rounds had a really short neck. They had no idea how to read the barrel stamp . . . yeah . . . right . . . 300 Win Mag.
So your story probably rings of never buying a car made on Monday or Friday!
