I have some surplus 7.62x25 tok rounds, they are old of course and dingy which may be part of the cause of occasional stovepiping. Is it safe to put these in a tumbler for a few minutes to shine them up a bit and get the old must off of them or am I asking for trouble!

Suposedly the powder can break down from little sticks into dust thus causeing an increased burn rate.....suposedly.
I may not want to try it with rounds loaded with black powder, as BP is much more sensative than smokless is. You may actually get a static electric build up in the case.

I was reading on one site (in the US somewhere) an old timer saying the myth was perpetuated because it was dangerous to do with BP cartridges and a lot of people carried it over to smokeless even though it wasn't true anymore. I suppose loose BP could be dangerous to tumble but aren't most BP cartridges compressed tightly?
Regardless many manufacturers tumble loaded ammo to polish it before boxing it and shipping it out. If it wasn't safe I'm sure they would have stopped.
