Here's a "heads-up" to all my fellow CGN'ers. Princess Auto is selling a 40 lb. bag of ground walnut shells for $30.00 + tax. They sell it for use as a coarse sandblasting medium. Has anyone else twigged on to this or actually used it? If so, be a sport and give us a performance review. I'll be getting my new tumbler this weekend, and giving it a work out, so if no one else chimes in, I'll be letting all of you know how it works out. This just seems to me to be a fantastic deal, and I'm not so petty as to keep this to myself.

I just picked some up the other day. It's about the texture of beach sand. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Gave half of it away to a fellow shooter.

May wife found some organic cat litter at WalMart made of corn cob...I thought WTF. I added a little bit of Brasso. Works pretty good I might add!

HAH....got mine for $18/50lbs :p

Compared to what Lyman, RCBS and others go for in the local shops, $30/40lbs is cheap. Compared to what it can be gotten for.....$30/40lbs is pricey. All depends on what you have available to you in your area.

I got some walnut shell at the pet store and immediately saw it way cheaper at Princess auto later.

The corncob seems to do a better job even though I added quite a bit of Nu-polish to the walnut shell. Going to keep an eye out for the cat litter stuff to try next.

Do you tumble so much brass that you can't let us know the name of this Mississauga industrial abrasives supplier?

Let us in on this.

Drilling rig workers should be able to get their crushed walnut shells for free.
Its pretty common to mix a couple hundred sacks in the span of 2-3 hours only to see them disappear forever into the bowels of the earth.

I'm still feeding my Dillon tumbler with a half sack that came home with me 10 years ago.

I got a bag at Princess auto a while back also. seems to work well, but lots of dust compared to the coarser walnut shell media I was using. for the price difference, I'll live with the dust :)
I find mixing some cobb media (petstore lizard bedding) with the walnut shell polished up the brass real pretty!
