Just getting into this but have a thought.
Why should I pay so much for walnut/other Tumbling media when I can buy Kitty Litter in various wood types that look similar for less than half the cost. Does anyone else do this, Specifically I have been looking at these brands

I do not work at petsmart by the way, I buy pine pellet horse bedding for me cat to use at its the cheapest I have found that isn't foul. Willing to spend a bit more for my ammo but would prefer the cheapest that works. Am I way off base here or have I found a suitable option?

me I use reptile bedding it's nutshell, with my 1 tumbler fill I used it at least 50 times and I don't have to change it pretty sure my 20$ bag will be good enough for the rest of my life . It's more faster then cornmedia and give a high shine to my case.

There's lots of substitutes. Lots of guys use walnut shell sand-blasting media, us riggers use walnut shell LCM material (fine is best) and the pet shop crowd use lizard bedding material.

Last time I bought walnut shell from a mud supply company it was 28 bucks for
a 50 pound bag.

where does one find stainless pins? and what do they cost? I have a cat so really after a few runs with the ammo I can recycle it 1x in the litter box lol.

You can get stainless pins on Amazon with free shipping, they aren't cheap though about 70$ for 5 lbs

why buy stainless pins? just use your old primers instead, you'll have a lifetime supply from your own press

X2 for the Princess Auto walnut shell sandblasting media. It's a little dusty but goes a long way.

Cost of stainless pins also goes with the extra $$ for a wet tumbler. It's a big investment for a low volume reloader.

Do not use litter that was used to tumble brass in your cat's litter box.
It contains lead styphnate, your cat will walk on the litter then lick its paws poisoning it.

SS tumbling is the best but to much $$ for me now for set up so I've just been using vinager/hot water and simple green cleaner and just in a bucket turning it around with a NEW toilet brush. So far about 30 min soak and stirring on and off has been good to clean them.
