Tumbling media??

I am setting up to reload .45 Colt and .45 ACP further down the road and was wondering what type of tumbler media would work best:
Stainless steel
Walnut
Corn husks
ceramic
Other
Any advice appreciated...Thanks

I have used both walnut and corn media with good results. My only advice is never put a piece of fleece blanket over the top of the tumbler to keep dust down. The fleece melts and drips in the media giving you lovely black spots that streak on the brass, stick in your die and are a biatch to remove. Took me a while to figure out what I did. Now I let the dust fly! (it is not that dusty anyhow!)

There are several threads about this, look around, but if you're starting from scratch, stainless steel will serve you forever, and achieve the best results.

Corn cob gives a shinier finish. Walnut cleans faster but not as shiney.

I thought stainless steel media was only for rotary tumblers, wet tumbling as well. My buddy built his own rotary and with wet tumbling and stainless pin media.....brass looks like gold...inside and out.

What kind of tumbler do your have, vibratory or rotary?

I am building my own tumbler from "surplus" parts and it will be able to do a lot at a time due to the power of the gear reduced motor. I will have to check out the stainless media at the local dealers as I imagine shipping would be expensive. I like the idea of casings looking like gold and the stainless would probably last a long time.
