Tumbling Media

I usually use about a cap full of polish in my media ... put the polish in first and let media and polish mix up with it before u put your brass in .

yea same here as the other guys said, just about a cap full, also I find the used drier sheets serves as polishing cloths and also clean the polish off the cases pretty good, that's why I throw 4-5 sheets in almost at the end of tumbling (they clean the polish off the brass)
 
Well you guys got me all fired up so I decided to go polishing. I have been using Lymans corn cob media but as you guys noted - it gets dirty real quick. So I grabbed some used Bounce sheets from the trash can beside the dryer. I figured if one was good then 8 would be super! So I sliced the 8 sheets into 32 strips. Well too much is not a good thing and a lot of them got wrapped around the spindle. So I fished those out and cut 8 in half making 16 patches. This seemed to work very well.

Drawing on others knowledge I bought some Brasso (plastic bottle - not as good as the can I know) and dumped that into the media. What I failed to do was remove the cases before adding the Brasso, so I ended up with polishing compound inside the cases :eek:

I the meantime I had to run an errand and left the tumbler running. Well guess what - it vibrated right off the bench. Casings and media all over the the floor - but that 'ol Lyman was still vibrating !

Shoot I thought (well not exactly the word I used) out of corn cob media and Bounce :mad: I run down to Princess Auto (after cleaning up - I am married...) to buy some ground walnut shells. Well the cashier looked at me kinda funny - but I let on that buying walnut shells happens all the time...

Now new walnut shells and semi-polished brass are happly vibrating in my basement, and I type and hope that some new calamity doesn't befall me before the kids get home...

hahah what a #### show eh! haha...trust me you'll be happy when its all said and done
 
A friend put me onto rice (75% white with 25% brown for lubrication) for tumbling and it appears to work very well. It is pretty economical as well. I found walnut shell to be very dirty and messy in my confined work space.
 
Used dryer sheets work good but I never had much success with straight brasso - it always turns my media into a sludge?

- And no, the ammonia won't affect your brass this has been extensively debunked

Anyhow, a while ago someone on here suggested Nevr-Dull® Magic Wadding Polish from Can. Tire. I've been using that for the last year and still have about 1/3 of the can left. It works good to capture the dirt & dust and contains polish for that extra shine.
 
Well, I hadn't used my tumbler in about 12 years. so the media that was in the tumbler was a Lyman product ,it only had one batch of brass in it ,so I added Lyman Turbo Charger and run the media for a few hours and then added a batch of brass.Well ,the brass came out 10 times worse. I read ,what I could on brass cleaning. Went out and bought Lagostina cleaner and tried that.Well, first couple times I tried it ,IT SUCKED. I used warm to hot water with the cleaner ,it worked GREAT. But ,I still was not 100% happy.
So, went to WALLY WORLD and bought Hartz corn cob 10 L. bag for about $6.00. the first batch was 1 HOUR and just like new brass. So, the second batch is on and it will probably take long .Then ,I'll try the bounce sheets with the corn cob .BUT ,for 6 BUCKS you can't go wrong.
