Tumbling questions

You are in guelph, as am I. You are welcome to come and grab my stainless setup to try for a week if you like. Then you can decide which way you want to go after trying another option. Let me know.

Thank you for the generous offer. I will take you up on that; thank you very much. I will PM you.

for me to avoid the primer pocket pain I tumble before I do anything, dump the media out and im good to go, I do run a LNL AP press. tumbling/cleaning any case before running them through your dies will give them longer life. all that crap on the case is gonna end up in your dies.

I bought one of those meat curing/tenderizing/marinating tumblers from Wholesale Sports last year, after reading the articles and threads on CGN.

The whole unit, already assembled, with a 5 litre plastic tub was less than a hundred dollars. It was on a 50% off clear out sale and they had a pallet of them.

The pins were bought from the US as I couldn't source them in Canada at the time. Shipping, cost more than the pins. Around $35 shipped for 15 pounds of 3/8 inch by .0125 in diameter.

I followed the recipe for a cleaning mix and added a bunch of cases. A couple of hundred 308 Win. They came out sparkling clean in less than an hour.

The clear plastic drum, was no longer clear but it wasn't cracked and it didn't leak. I was a bit worried about it and I know it will eventually wear out but so far it works fine.

I was going to build one. I had all of the stuff to do it but this unit was already made and working. It didn't require tinkering and honestly, I just didn't want to put the time into building the unit. This unit, is light and handy. It fits nicely onto a regular sized shelf as well.

You are putting too much work into it.
You don't need to trim every time, only when they start getting up near max length. Same goes for deburring, you only have to do that after you trim.
No need to clean the case mouth with steel wool. Cleaning primer pockets is a waste of time, you won't gain one point or even a V Bull by cleaning primer pockets.
Get yourself some extra fine, unteaded corn cob media. You might get one or 2 cases out of 50 that you have to pick the media out of the flash hole. Untreaded corn cob will shine them up and so you won't have to use Never Dull afterwards. Any little bit of dust that reamains in the case will soon disappear under the extreme heat once the primer sparks the powder.

+1 :)

For media I go to a pet store to the reptile section and get crushed walnut bedding. I pay about $13-15 for a 20 lb bag. It's fine enough that if any does get stuck in the flash hole you can just tap it out on your bench and you are set.
