Tumbling with Kitty Litter

I tried some corn cob kitty litter once and I didn't care for it, I found that there was too much fine material and it would just pack into the cases and it needed to be dug out. I have read some posts that it works okay but I didn't have much luck, it may have depended on what type of kitty litter they were using.
If you see some on sale at a good price try it out and see how it does for you, you might get a type that will work for you.

Kitty litter is ground up clay. Sometimes with additives. Go buy a bag of small pet bedding in a discount pet supply shop. A great big bag will cost you less than $20.
"...As abrasive as stainless steel..." SS isn't right either.
 
Ground walnut can be had in bulk from a sand blasting supply shop.
The last time I bought it, it was around $22 for a 50 lb bag.
 
Kitty litter = dusty mess + plugged primer holes.
Absorball/floordry = scratched cases + dusty mess.
Rice = glue like substance on cases.
sand, just don't, it will eat your barrel when it comes out on the bullet.
glass beads = slow. might be faster with soap and water.

Just buy walnut or corncob and be done with it. Do you really want to cut corners with a $###X dollar rifle/pistol/revolver.

I'm thinking about retiring early. My greatest fear is going through my money too fast. I found shooting and reloading eats up a lot of time without spending money. Great past time. Fishing also chews up time with out money.

The pet shop sells stuff called lizard litter. Crushed walnut. You can use it for a year, lets say 10000 pieces of brass. The times it takes to polish gets longer. Then I start adding Meguiars polishing wax. A tablespoon full squirted in will probably polish for another 2000 pieces of brass then add more polish, another 2000 and so on and so on. When it gets alot of fine dust I throw in some small 2" square chunks of rags to pick up the dust in the mix. I just throw the rags out after a polishing session. I get 3+ years out of my lizard litter. I have 2 Lyman 2500 pro magnum tumblers and they have almost 7 pounds of media in them. One has a 50/50 lyman corncob/lizard litter. The other has straight corn cob(+meguiars polish), the big stuff, for 45acp and 45/70 cases.

The pet store also sells corn cob in 10 kilo bags but I don't recommend it because its has too large of pieces and they get stuck in cases.

Seriously, When I first started polishing brass, I forgot to pick up some media.
I'm a long ways from the gun shop, so I tried a lot of stuff. Corn flakes, rice crispies, baking soda added to the above, all sorts of stuff.
I gave up, the media works best.
 
dumb me read that kitty litter was the cats meow so off the the pet store and pickup some johnnycat ,boy did i ever mess up my brass with a layer of clay oh yea and i added some nufinish ,nice mix.

Kitty litter is usually dried clay add water and vibration, you get wet clay.
Let it dry, well, you already know about that part don't you?

my friend is using corn but he had to it ; BAM from Easy off manufacture , his brass come out very nice after short periode of time

if you pore a case in this solution as a test, sink in a case half way in it , the portion that was in the solution come out as clear as gold ! but it may afect the brass ....
