I have a stock 54.18 MS-ED. I bought it new in 1989.
All targets @ 50 yards.
Back in 2007 I shot 355 5shot groups to test Lapua, RW50 & Eley ammo. BIG spreadsheet.
Eley Ultimate was best with average agg'd at .2880 - 20 groups.
I bought a bunch of Lapua Master M, which average agg'd at .3319 (60 groups). This is my reference ammo for changes (house plonk).
This year I've got it out and started shooting it again. Now it's agging .5386, 15 groups.
I think it's either bedding or needs a good cleaning.
I went to the auto store & bought a $30 torque wrench. Factory says 44 in/lbs.
Today I did a small sample - 5 3shot groups.
Then I shot 5 5shot groups @ 30 in/lbs and agg'd .3882 - second worst for Master M. Better than the .5s!
I'll repeat the torque test again to confirm findings then give it a good cleaning.
Who should I talk to to get this pillar bedded this winter - round action single fire?
Or any other tuning suggestions?
thanks in advance
