Tuning Savage action - screw torque

Is there any rule of thumb for the Accu Stocks?

Bed them properly and then it is back to the same thing.

Great concept. Not so good in real life.

dont believe me? Shoot the rifle for a while then take it apart and you will see the grey lines I refered above.

Look at the front of the recoil lug and the nice shiney spot. There will be other spots here and there.

Look in the action bolt hole and if shot enough, you may see a nice threaded print, even partial threads in the alum. That hole is not threaded.

Measure your action bolts new for runout. compare it later.

Instead of everyone always being sheep and following one opinion all the time, try it for yourself. The ole YMMV is said for a reason...You always work up your load to your specific barrel, so why not "tune" your action screws to your specific setup? Whats the worst that can happen? Your groups will either shrink, stay the same or open up...Adjust accordingly... Again, just one guys opinion...

We also cannot try anything ourselves. That would take effort and we cannot be bothered.

This is the internet. We expect to be given advice that is absolutely gospel truth by people we have never met, for free. Even when there are three correct answers, we need to know the rightest right answer. Then we need to argue with others who have different yet equally valid opinions like a bunch of religious zealots.

Oh wait, this isn't the black rifle forum is it. Opps my bad.:p

On a slightly more serious note, I was going to try different torque on the rear action screw sometime this weekend if I get the time. At worst it gives me an excuse for some trigger time :).

I'll let y'all know what I find out one way or the other.

its properly bedded and free-floated right? if it is pick a number you like and torque both screws to that number then start developing loads, it'll be easier to tune your load to a consistent setting then it will to pick a load and then tune to 2 screws to that load (if that'll even work)
