I have a large ring, small shank turk mauser in my safe and got a dumb question about it. If it is a small shank, does this mean I can screw a small ring barrel into it? I want to get a 22-250 barrel for it as the 8 X 57 barrel throat is shot out, I supose from shooting corrosive ammo throught it. It has the bolt bent already, drilled and tapped for a scope, and has a magazine installed in it. Would this be a good idea?

It can work, but the front of the turk receiver has a protruding lip that encompasses the base of the Turk small shank barrel. Your gunsmith will need to either face off the lip, or lathe the barrel knox to fit inside it.

If making a sporter, most guys just get the lip faced off on the lathe.

Thanks for the reply. Another dumb question for ya, if the barrel is small enough to fit inside the lip, cant I leave it there?

Turk

Years ago I had a new military barrel in 6.5X55 from a model 38 rifle fit to a Turk action. It made a really sweet shooting rifle that cost almost nothing. The later Turk rifles had pretty decent actions if you can locate one in good enough condition as they tend to be in rough shape.
