turkey season is coming fast and it will be my first one. what are the brand of ammo I should avoid and what to select, I know I should check the pattern of my 12 gauge but if i could just get a smaller list, it will be appreciated

I use Winchester supreme high velocity turkey loads. 3 inch. 1 3/4oz #5, 1300fps. They've never let me down, even at 45 yards it still only put a few pellets in the meat which were easily removed. My Winchester 1300 liked it and now my 870 sps super magnum turkey/predator likes them as well. I get them from my local tsc. Picked up a good supply when they went on sale as they are my go to load for pest control as well. Happy hunting!

#8 must make for a lot of lost birds past 15 yards, i find turkey a tough bird at times.

I use Winchester supreme 13/4oz #5, seems to pattern well for most guys that I have seen use it, getting expensive these days

I was thinking of using a pointy stick…

The rem nitro were suggested to me as well. This will be my first turkey shoot. They roost in the woods behind my shed.

I have a big male sits in the tree beside the cow barn while we do chores. Been feeding him and the deer cow feed everyday. I figure a 22short might be over kill even.

I am a federal guy for years .I just am a big fan of the flight control wads ,I find most guns will pattern them very well and find them best for guys that still shoot guns without screw in chokes.not bad price wise most shops carry them .DUTCH

Winchester Supreme 3.5 , 2oz , #6 the black ones, undertaker choke. Have worked great for years. The only time they didn't was a few years back i bought a new box and didn't even think of a difference. After missing the 4th bird of the year I patterned the gun again and noticed a different wad on the ground. Yep Winchester had made a change and that caused my gun to shoot 10 inches to the left. Quick turn on the Red Dot solved it but i really began to question my abilities. Lesson for the day run run down the pipe if you are using a new box of shells manufacturers do make changes

Out were I hunt them they are so many that they are considered a nuisance and the farmer your get permission from get a little upset when you leave with only one. They are usually close enough that my kids get them with the .410

I just bought some new Winchester long beard ammo... Does seem to live up to the hype. 50-60 yard shots are more than doable.

Never hit a bird with one yet.

i refuse to support winchester thats another story on why.

i use federal 3.5in mag#5 threw a super nova and a poly choke on 2xx full. i have 50 yard range easy.

If you can find it, I recommend getting some HEVI 13 #6, it's pricey but well worth it, I get really good patterns farther than with the ammo I used to use. In the end, get a bunch of different turkey loads in #4,5 and 6 AND shell of all lengths (2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2), you might think that a longer shell with more lead is better but its all about pattern, I used to use some 3 1/2in shells in my turkey gun and ended up switching to a 3in HEVI 13 shell thanks to a member on here and made it made all the difference, bagged a Tom at about 57yds the next day, I wouldn't even have thought to make that shot with what I was previously shooting.
