Just returned from the range after checking out the pattern of #5 Winchester Turkey loads at approx. 35 yards , extremely satisfactory . These shells were fired from my 870, 28 inch barrel. On way back I thought , why not use my 11- 87 deer slayer and use the shorter barrel (20") with the Primos Turkey choke. I like the shorter barrel.

Any opinions , as what the pattern would be like at approximately 35 yds . At this point I may switch my shells to Remington Hevi Shot - no time to go back to the range.
Keep in mind most of the powder is burnt within 18 to 20 inches

Any comments would be appreciated - thanks.

A lot of turkey guns have shorter barrels, my gun is a Remington 870 supermag with 23" barrel and worked wonders last year. If you have a tight choke in the gun give it a try, the pattern will not be much different than the longer barrels but again you have to match the ammo to the gun. If you find that those shells do not pattern well try other brands, you should be able to find something to suit.
