Turkey Fan

Bro shot this turkey today and found the fan to be a different color.

yes I've seen this before as well years past. Seems to be in them every now and then.

my first bird this season had the same just not as pronounced as that one. have harvested a few with the white strips in the middle fan feathers over the years.

There are some pretty neat color variations in turkeys. I've been lucky enough to shoot a few odd balls. Nothing really drastic but neat to see.

I shot one like that a couple of years ago. It looks pretty cool.

Yup lots have the white colouring in the middle couple feathers. Makes for a nice fan mount.

I was told if he hears you pull the trigger some of the color will drain out of his fan.

Is that possibly from some domestic blood in the lineage????

I have found that once a bird gets 4-5 years old they start getting those blond feathers. Have been chasing one this week with 4 in its tail like that and the farmer tells me it has been around 6-7 years.
