Either of these any good? One thing missing from my safe is a dedicated Turkey gun...both on sale, the Armsan (3") seems to be the same gun Weatherby and CZ sold at one time, both are pretty low priced. The Mossy 835 is 3.5".

Do you hunt from a blind? If so then black gun will be perfect, get a cheap maverick 88 or mossberg 500 and a tightwad choke. Ive shot 2 turkeys in my 3 years of turkey hunting with a 500 (24inch barrel) and tightwad combo. One from about 20yrds away and the other at 35yrds. My shooting eye is getting worse every year so i will be using a scope this spring (bushnell trophy 1.75-4 shotgun scope). Pumps are cheaper and 3 inch shells are plenty for a turkey.

The Armsan is a fantastic gun but the 835 will pattern better with its over-bored barrel. If you like the idea of a 10g barrel, go with the Mossberg 935 instead which is a semi auto. I have both the Armsan and 935 and I would always chose the 935 over the Armsan for a turkey hunt. The 935 is also offered in a turkey setup with 24” barrel and pistol grip. But I would definitely chose the Armsan A612 over the 835 if those are your only choices

Best thing about turkey hunting is the ability to use a wide variety of scatterguns. Ive used everything from tacted up short barrel guns to vintage doubles. My main setup is a scoped mossberg 535 ats with an ati m4 adjustable stock and custom .650 choke. It works well but other times i carry my 10s
Either gun will work for you. As long as they fit you. Buy a bunch of brands of ammo and pattern test your gun and ammo and choke combinations and hunt within the limits of your set up

I have a semi 12g, picked up a Derya from Dlask years back when he was clearing them out...it's seen a lot of rounds and was the best $300 I ever spent on a shotty. I'm sure it would work fine for gobblers.
The Mossy has benefits, but the idea of having to remove the stock to clean the gun is annoying. Also not being able to shoot slugs out of it. Like the porting and the beef of it though. Read a few problems with it feeding reliably as well.

I have been eyeing the armsan myself. We are on the verge of our first turkey season here in NB (fingers crossed) and i've been watching enough turkey hunting videos to get the itch to try it out, been wondering if i need a camo shotgun or if the regular black will do

Well iff'in yer into A-5 three inch mags with a full choke, I was told the fulls arrr a turkey choke.
So I guess tight'errr than a full choke.

I use a 535 ats in black ati furniture. Ati m4 adjustible rear and anti jam front. My reciever has turned a purplely black as has my redfield scope. Works just fine. As do coin finished sxs guns

Avoiding movement is the key
Yeah, saw some bow hunters literally shoot turkeys 2 feet from them. I have an awesome video too on FB of a local guy who snuck up on a sleeping turkey with his cell phone, had to poke it with his finger like 5 times to wake it up...I'll see if I can share here somehow.

The important thing is (if possible) shoulder the guns, try in different positions (sitting/leaning against something with it resting on your knee, etc.) If it fits comfortably, it makes it to the next round of the selection process, after that I just go to reviews on the reliability (which I can’t say I have first hand for either of these models.) I had to sit still with my gun shouldered for what felt like a thousand hours this year, a bird was about 5 feet from me, spooked, as my decoy had blown around and was facing us. Goodluck!

The PA-459/Armsan arrived today... initial impression is it's a pretty well made piece, very solid action bars, decent trigger, very smooth action, weight is nice and light, points very lively, like that the important parts are chromed so it will be durable and take some abuse. I see a little red dot on this in the future one I figure out a load she likes.
