I am going to get my Turkey Licence this year and therefore I "have to" get a new shotgun just for Turkey. I currently have an 870 and a couple Canadian Tire Single barrel hand-me downs among others. What I am looking for is a lightweight auto turkey gun with a top tang safety.
Also, anyone ever take a bird with a bow or crossbow?

I think Bonez is right that Mossberg is your only option (if you are stuck on top tang safety and auto) Browning makes a pump with top tang but you already have an 870 so.....
If you can get past the safety issue, look at a Stoeger 2000 or an Extrema

okay

why not just use what u got .or buy a nic short barrel with screw ins and sightsfor the 870 and spend the extra money n your mom !!!!!!!DUTCH

Why not buy a turkey choke for your 870,screw it in and go hunting? If you must buy a new semi with a top tang safety I believe Mossberg is it.Have a look at Elwood Epps website and see what they have in stock and take the trip up the 400 to check them out in person. Cheers Bac4

He just needs to justify buying a new gun.
I have a semi auto mossberg, and i want to get into turkey hunting cause it seems fun, and it gives me a reason to buy a gun that covered in camo.

Some of us have "bosses" we need to answer to.

Depending on where you hunt, I think an older double barrel is the best turkey gun on the market.

1)Break open safety for the long walks
2)Older guns are usually choked F/M, so when a Tom walks 15yards from you, the mod choke has it's place.
3)They are usually shorter and lighter.

Wrap some camo tape on and you're set. Just a thought. My buddy spent the spring chasing gobblers with his citori, and he loves it.

I agree a hundred percent. You don't need a 3 1/2" Mag and an 8lb gun to kill a Turkey. Older sxs's are easy to carry and you can pick your Choke.

I wouldn't buy an auto just for Turkey. It's basically a one shot deal. If you miss, them lil fella's can run! So pick up one of them "Undertaker" or neat 0.660" chokes (Cabelas), and fit it in.
