Hey Guys;

With everyone talking turkey, I thought I would set up my 'turkey' gun...

That's right, it's a Kel-Tec KSG with an EOTech EXPS3-0, an SMT Tactical muzzle nut adapter that allows the use of Remington choke tubes & a Primos Extra-Full Turkey choke!!!

All I have to say is; "Boom! HEADSHOT!"

Cheers
Jay
P.S. I know, I know, the night vision compatible red dot is a little over the top! HA HA HA :ar15: :rockOn:

And this is the pattern at 31 meters... I think it will do...

No pics but I'm using my Derya mk10 with Vortex spitfire optic, just had it bore sighted and 3" Winchester turkey with a Benneli mobile turkey choke anything within 50 yards is smoked and if I can get a good hold and a clean shot 75-100yards I think could get there!

Just an 870 with Hogue furniture, 23in. rifle sight barrel with Mod. Remchoke and #5 Win. Longbeard XR's. Previously used Federal #4 FliteControl and Hornady #4 Versatite to good effect so we shall see.

Also Deer Gun

I'm using my Benelli supernova. It has a Kicks extra full choke and bushnell trophy xlt scope. I'm loving this set up. I'm confident with it out to 50 yards.

Taking it to paper tomorrow and I'll know, my hunting buddy uses a semi auto browning with 3.5" shells cans nailed one last year at 80. Not saying I can or will shoot 75-100 but I think the gun itself and the ammo could get there.

Not unless the laws of physics and shotgun technology have completely changed. You may injure a bird at 100 yards but more likely he will flip you off and laugh at you.

Very cool Jay. So, a broom handle in each magazine tube?

3/8's inch wood dowel. Right tube is completely blocked & left tube only allows two 3" shells. With the KSG the only way to access the mag tube to block it is through the hole for the bolt at the muzzle end... Hence the 3/8" dowel...

Cheers

Only over the top unless your wearing NV or have a mount behind monocle??? The gauntlet has been thrown down who has a 10k+ thermal system they use the night before to find the flock in the trees.

What a pile of BS... I have to believe that you have no experience with turkeys.

Take some pics when you have actually "shot" the gun... and for the record, one pellet in the head/neck on paper is not an indication that the gun/shell combination is lethal at that distance... you should "consistently" have 10 or more pellets on paper through vital areas, before you declare that gun/shell good at that particular distance. 50 yards is stretching it for most combinations, and there are a lot of birds wounded at that range. Get your bird to under 40 yards and kill it clean...

Turkeys can be taken with any shotgun... it doesn't have to be trukey specific. We have taken toms with everything from bows to 20 gauge upland guns, even a 110 year old Tobin side by side with 2 3/4" #6 pheasant loads... pattern the gun and stay inside of its effective range and you are golden.

Here is one taken with a Browning Citori;

I couldn't agree more with you Hoyt!! In fourty + years of shotgunning I've yet to see the mythical "100 yard shotgun"?! It used to crack me up when I worked in a gun shop when I was younger and a month before grouse season opener all these older fellows would come in carrying their little measuring devices they could stick in the muzzle of a gun(mainly a dime) and that would tell them if they had a shotgun that could chop off a grouses head without getting pellets in the breast. :rolleyes:
I had one regular fellow who had carved himself a little flat plastic pointer shaped muzzle measuring device specific to a 4:10. If it reached a certain mark on the pointer that was a GOOD 4:10!!! I swear he was convinced somewhere out there was a 4:10 so superbly choked it could fire the shot string in single file!! Laugh2

3.5 remy hevi 6s gives me a good dense pattern with stock full choke out to 45. Probably could do better if i #### around with the choke but i cant be bothered.

See how many pellets you can get in a 10" circle at 40yds.

Here's mine that I set up for turkey a few years ago. Just a Rem 870 with a 21" barrel, camo furniture, Undertaker choke and TruGlo fiber optic sights. Does just over 100 in 10" at 40 yds with a couple loads.

Ah Hoyt, you have no faith, I shot my first turkey at 75 yds one shot stone dead............Oh ya but wait, that was with a handgun...........Ok I shot another one the next day at 200 mtrs, how's that for stretching them out, nope, nope that one was with my Hornet.........how come you guys shoot turkeys with a shot gun anyways, stupid thing with no range to them.....

Holy sh!t, that photo was back when I was young and beautiful.............seems like yesterday, I look at my bear pics from this year and wonder who that old fart is that snuck into my bear photos........

SuperBrad just loves this pic, it's the new proper pose for turkey photo ops.....

Here is a photo of the turkey I took on May 16th last year. I used my 20 gauge SX3 with a Carlson's .585 Turkey choke and Kent Diamond turkey load in #6 shot. If you are wondering about the camouflage tape; this shotgun has the Gray Permacote finish which sparkles like a 'Twilight' vampire in the sun.

Here is the shotgun I am going to use this year. This is my 1936 Francotte SxS with 12 gauge 2-3/4" chambers and ~29-1/2" barrels. Constriction is 29 mils left and 17 mils right. I'm using modern ammunition in it, though my friend thinks I should be using something more vintage for posterity.

Here is the pattern out of the tighter barrel at 35 yards using Federal Premium Mag-Shok with the flitecontrol wad. I guess I didn't take a photo of the more open barrel but I'd say it would have a similar pattern around 25-28 yards.

I bought some Longshot powder and some 1-1/4 oz wads so maybe next year I will have my own custom load worked out for it.
