Hello all,
I am new to the world of firearms and a complete virgin to the world of hunting. However I think I would like to give it a try and I would like to start with a wild turkey. Are these even obtainable to hunt in B.C? Or am I completely out to lunch? Any input is much appreciated.

First you need to do the CORE (Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education) course and exam. You will get lots of good info there.

As to your question, yes there are Turkey in a fair bit of south central and south east BC (Kooteneys mostly).

I have a great recipe for wild turkey's ... Get a big pot and bring the water to a boil. When the water is boiling put the turkey and a big rock in the water together. When the rock goes soft the turkey should be ready.

:)

Near as I figure, if a 22 is good for grouse, should be gewd for the gobblers too.

Oops, missed yer handle, jest shoot'in frum the hip there Jessy James.

Turkey's are expanding here in BC, from the Kooteneys to the Christian Valley in Southern BC.
While I have no experience hunting these birds, I have heard they are lots around Christina Lake in Region 8-05 ish.
A good Crow or an owl hoot will get their attention right around roosting time.
They dont call them gobblers for nothing.
A quick scan of the regs will tell you if you can shoot them with a .22 (head shots) or if you will need to call and stalk with a shotgun
with the tightest choke available.
Enjoy the chase.

yes, as far as I know there are some LEH areas and some general open season areas. I've hunted them a couple times in the Kootenays with mixed success. You can use rimfire or shotgun. Most of the birds seem to be on/around farms so you have to get permission - but a lot of farmers don't like turkeys so it's not as hard as you might think. The one I got cooked up pretty well - so well that the wife doesn't complain too much when I tell her I want to go again. BC also has a fall season if I remember correctly

Boy for a newbie hunter you sure want to start with the smartest fastest animal in the bush
. Yup you can find turkeys from osoyoos east .
But you do need to be a seasoned hunter or go with one .
Welcome to the world of hunting .
Nothing that's lots of studying and years in the bush can't fix
