Turkey loads, pattern tests **Picture heavy**

As do I but when I call a bird to 6 yds, after 1.5 hours of strutting just out of range, in front of one newb, he pounds it broadside, 1,2,3, bird still running goes past the second and he does the same. Me tagged out with no gun. I am of the opinion that once you have one into anything you do your damnest to finish the job in the most humane way possible. Which they tried to in the heat of the moment. The fever has unnerved the best of us at the worst of times.
Did take pleasure making these two youngsters comb through a thorn flat for almost an hour to find the bird that weighed at least half a pound more than it did when the shooting started. Things go bad but those who followup those mistakes to the end earn my respect. I have hunted with both these young men since and they did learn from that mistake and have since made many one shot kills.

Hehehehe that is awesome. Also, I did not mean any criticism or disrespect. If it isn't down, you keep shooting until it is, I have to agree with that.

I use 7/8 oz #6 shot fired from my mossberg 535 ats with a custom .650 choke or from any of my fixed full choked sxs guns. Holds a great tight pattern out past 40 yards.
The more shot you try to throw fast the worse the patterns get.

Go and get some Winchester Long Beard #5 patterns great in my 870 turkey gun with Primos Jellyhead choke.

Id say throw out those heavy loads unless its a 10Ga, ive used 1 1/2oz rem 2.75 no problem to 45 yards, more shot, the more it hits into other shot on the way out spreading the pattern.
As for the winchester long beard, ive tryed it in #5 1 3/4oz, shoots like a slug, recoil like a tank. patterns no different then my rem turkey loads.

I have tried quite a few different rounds for turkey, hands down the Federal 3 1/2 #4 wins with flight control wad. Had a Winchester with a wad in it and one of the legs on he wads was folded down and the shot was laying on top. I shoot a Beretta Extrema with a turkey super full. Have had 3 kills @ 60 yards dead right there. All guns will like different stuff so it is best to try things until something works with your gun/choke combo....
Here is a pattern out of my 1934 Remington Model 31 with factory Skeet choked barrel. The load is Federal Mag-Shok with FliteControl wads Not bad, but that's probably the last time I use them. I don't think those 4 dram loads are good for an 81 year old gun.

I know its not popular and it's by far cheaper than the big brand names but I have had the best results out of Kent diamond turkey loads in both 2 3/4 and 3 inch. Far better than anything else I have shot.
It's what I use in my 20 gauge and what my brother uses in his 12 gauge.
I get mine at Bass PRO or Epps. Bass PRO has it on for $8.49 per box (10 per box) for 20 gauge 3" and $10.49 per box (again 10 per box) for 12 gauge 2-3/4". Epps is a bit more money but that's a price break issue.
