in the day of shooting some clubs ran turkey shoot's that ran shoots that all'so had glass turkies,ie booze but in this day and age we we look at the fact that booze and guns don't mix,. So it is meat only , bragging rights only.The best part of this is the fact that younger people have the chance to shoot and help them learn and get involved with the sport or obsession as we are , the younger needs to get out and try it, talking about it does'nt help just the same old-same old story, Now they get to experiences that we have had, Ever think back to when we first went out with someone who thought letting you shoot a gun that would knock you on you're ass was funny, We Should help all who want to join in the game join in .

We used to go out to the Sharon gun club Turkey shoots back in the early 80's......first Turkey shoot I ever attended.

We used to hold them at the now gone North Bay Skeet & Trap Club. We had several events including the "card" type shoot. A 4" hole in a steel plate stand. 32 yards and a shell loaded with 1 1/8 # 4 shot. Most pellets within the circle won. Always 10 shooters @ $5/shot. Club made good $.
We would also do a "miss and out" shoot. 10 shooters each taking a shot from # 3 trap station at a trap target in turn. Started at 19 yard line. Miss and youre out. Hit and advance to the 20 yard and so on, saw lots of shoots end up in the parking lot 10+ yards past the 27 before a winner emerged, lol.
But by far the one most liked were the buddy shoots. Two sets of numbers 1-5 in a hat. 10 shooters each draw a number. Partner with the matching number. All 10 shooters assembled on the 27 line. 2 shooters on stn 1, 2 on 2 and so on. If your name was called first you shot first and your partner had to back you up if you missed. If you hit the clay and your partner still shot at it it was scored lost. Took some patience due to the delay in breaking a target from the time of the bang of your gun going off to the break from the 27! Then after all 5 teams had shot you would reverse turns, you would back your partner up who shot first. Two targets at each station for a score out of 10 targets. $5/shooter entry. Club would keep $20 and return $30 for the two winners to split. Those were fun shoots and great fundraisers for the club.

We used to put on a 100 singles trap event each year followed by a bunch of the shoots I described above and profits from the shoot were donated to the North Bay Santa Fund. The local tv station interviewed me one year prior to the event to try to help us bolster attendance. It was pretty cool and brought out some new faces as well as a few which had disappeared years before.
We also put on an event each year with proceeds to the cancer society.
