I went to a turkey shoot last weekend!

What a freaking hoot!

I did not win anything but came close every time!

Anyone else go tho these kind of shoots?

They are a blast. I won my first bird last month, using my friends gun. He travels all over to compete and he was to the US early this fall. I have been to 3 shoots and now I am looking for a 12 gauge that will compete. So far I have 4 singles and a pump. I am preaty consistant with one of the singles but it is not tight enough to win birds.

What's a turkey shoot?
They use frozen turkeys now... they had to stop using live Turkeys due to the complaints from the Humane society... the turkey launchers can by the compressed air kind or the spring loaded jobs.
A frozen turkey at 150 fps is a tough target.

You should get out and try it sometime.;)

It is when you shoot a piece of paper from a distance. A judge counts the number of pellets you get in the specified area. The person who gets the most pellets on the paper wins the round and wins a frozen turkey.

Just went to a turkey shoot on Sunday .
Our club has two every year around x-mas .
It's a really good time , lots of people .
We have turkey boards that are 2 bucks a circle / 17 circles per board . shot at 25 yards , back to stooter , most pellets win a turkey .
we also do trap with turkeys for prizes .
A lot of fun .

I've been to these and I use salt loads with a bit of garlic powder and dried thyme - it helps with the cooking process afterward.

WKRP - "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly." :D

BR, you are a prick! LMAO.

You've finally cracked! Have you taken your meds?

Dave.

When we used to do them, you had a card, and as said, 25 yards and shoot the house loads.
My dad took home alot of birds and bottles when we were young with the old 2200. I wish I didnt bore it to Mod for steel shot. The gun patterned like a dream.
Do any clubs out here still do them? anyone know?
I got an old cooey that will lay a beay down seeing as I heard you cant use turkey chokes.

i belive the 3rd Sunday of every month the Lions club in Maple has a shoot just off of Keel where the Maple Dump was when i find out where other turkey shoots are i will post them for you in the event fourm

I go to the odd one here and there. Just like Jonny said you shoot at paper with loads they give you, the most pellets wins and so on. They watch you though, as I have thought of slipping in a 3 1/2 inch shell with 2 1/4 ounce load of number 9's. There would be like a million holes in the paper. I would clean up. Usually they use crappy federal number 6 or something like that. They now catch on to the people using the Über full turkey choke tubes and dont allow that. Screws me one more time. All in all a fun afternoon though.
