This will be my 1st season turkey hunting.. I've got the pop up blind, comfortable out to 30 yards and ready to go.

A farmer was kind enough to let me hunt on his land in Winchester, On. He has a 200x200 yard soy field next to an identical corn field. The whole property is quite large. It seems like an ideal spot and it backs into dense forest (heavily deer hunted by the public) that may be south mountain Forrest?

I've driven by regularly during daytime hours for the last 3 months and seen only geese....not a whif of turkey. In fairness I've never gone before 9am.

Should I be hunkering down in my blind right at sunrise and start calling with turkey/crow calls?
Or should I be venturing off into the bush?

How deep into the bush do turkeys roost? The mere fact I see turkeys roaming my neighborhood and occasionally causing traffic back ups in the city leads me to believe they would likely roam freely on the lush fields i hunt on.....if they were there.

Thoughts?

Try going out at there in the evening with a crow call or owl hoot and see if you can get them to gobble on the roost. If you get a response, that would be first step to tell you, need to be out there early.

Look for large trees big pines or hardwoods like oak and maple they prefer to roost in them. Since the season is open already I'd scout on the fly. Get out to your blind an hour before sunrise and listen. The birds will tell you where they are soon enough. They are birds of habit, if they something today chances are they'll do it the same tomorrow (most of the time but not always) turkey hunting is a fantastic way to enjoy the spring and they a dang tasty to!
Good luck.
