Turkey- The Early Bird Gets the Lead

We have one gobbler down... called in three jakes with three toms and a few hens, right at first light. Took a nice tom with my Citori... sitting at spot two as I write this... seem to be more birds this year than last. Will post pictures at the end of the day.
Edit; My son and I hunted six different spots and worked toms at four of them... the other two were a bust. In the end, just the one bird from the early morning stand, but we got in some good scouting found two new locations and have a good set-up ready for the morning.

6:00 am, heard lots of gobbling. Bumped a hen walking in.

Great start to the season.

I went out for a few hours (93a) didn't see or hear a thing have to try against on the weekend, weather was poor rain and wind
Took my Tom at 7:45 Yesterday. Was calling back and forth with him for a hour and half before he commited to Avian X Jake decoy
I used quack box and push pin. He gobbled the whole way in. Used my versamax with #4 remington turkey load.

I waited 3 hours for this bird. In that time, he fought off two other toms and mated with one, possibly two hens, all just inside 50 yards from my blind. When he finally finished doing his deeds, he decided to come in. He saw my decoys and ran into them as fast as he could. And as pissed as can be, he attacked my Readhead Reality motion jake decoy. After a few solid leg kicks, he showed me his back and separated enough from the decoy for me to get off a shot without collateral damage to the decoy. It was pretty awesome to watch the fall of a dominant tom. The other two gobblers he fought and the hens he bred were a bit further out watching the action unfold. This bird was taken with a Mossberg 935 using #4 Kent Ultimate Diamond Shot.

The season opened today.. Hope it wasn't yesterday.
Sweet looking bird - congrats! Is that a Beretta Al391 Ureka 2 by chance? Only reason I ask is I have the same shotgun (by looks of it). Curious what choke you are running and what patterns best for you. I've got a Carlsons Turkey on mine and I'm getting decent results with Rem Nitro. Hoping to try some of that Winny long beard XR out
I took a Tom this morning (6:30), out of a group of four brothers. I dropped him with my Supernova and Winchester LB #5, KICKS 655 choke @ 25 yards. As soon as he went down, his "brothers" came in and gave him a further beating and then went on their way

Hi deerfarmer. That 12 is an Extrema2. It came with an estate sale I bought a few years back and I've been unable to part with it. It came with a Jellyhead ported choke and I'm just working my way through a pile of Turkey loads that came along as well. It's taken several birds with 2/1/4 oz loads of #6 but I've never tried it beyond 40 yards. At 15 yards yesterday it really messed his head up good and the breast was clean��

My second season into Turkey hunting, yesterday, I bagged my first bird at 38 yards. Used an old 20ga Baikal SxS chambered for 3in cartridge and choked XF/F. I had patterned the left barrel with Kent Diamond #5, 1 1/4oz and right with Federal Heavyweight #6, 1 1/2oz turkey loads.
At daybreak, I observed a flock of 11 birds including 2 huge toms emerge out of the treeline in front of me at 207 yards (per my rangefinder). The birds remained there but never called even once or responded to our calls/decoys for the entire time we were there. However, a lone hen from the group decided to check us out and hung around the decoys long enough for another tom that suddenly came out towards the hen about a 100 yards from my left flank. When I shot the bird, one of the toms out in front closed the distance at stunning speed and started stomping on the downed bird. Throughout the day, we spotted birds in various fields in the area but never heard a single call. The Tom weighed 20lbs, had a 7in beard and about an inch spurs.

Took my first turkey today, 7am, a little Jake. Took it at 40 yards, 1 shot with Federal Premium no.5, broke his neck. Might have to break out the Hoyt Nitrum for the 2nd, and go for a nice big Tom now that I have one turkey down.
