My best bird so far!
22lbs
1" Spurs
5 and 7" beards
Taken at 5 yds
Done by 6am

I took a Tom this morning (6:30), out of a group of four brothers. I dropped him with my Supernova and Winchester LB #5, KICKS 655 choke @ 25 yards. As soon as he went down, his "brothers" came in and gave him a further beating and then went on their way :) I'm going to get another tag, and try out my new Matrix 330.

Nice bird Asphaltman!

I wish I had a property which allowed me to choose which tom to take, lol. This is my second year and both years I've taken opening week off but I still haven't seen a jake or tom, EVER! Despite very low spirits I went back out this morning 4 am - 2 pm. We heard a tom gobble at 6 am but couldn't reign him in with calls and later in the day a hen passed right in front of us.

P.S. Didn't we do an EE transaction with one another? Glock backstraps if I recall correctly.

I took a tom yesterday morning at 6:30. came into 50 yards and stalled, turned and was at 62 yards when I decided to take my farthest shot to date. patterned my mossburg 935 with primos jelly head choke last year with Winchester long beard xr #4 out to 50 yards so I figured I could make the shot. dropped him like a rock and only see two pellet holes in the breast and quite a few in the head. i'll post pics tonight if I can get my wife to upload them from her camera.

gun used last year and this year was a Mossberg 935 with 24"barrel, primos jell head choke, Winchester 3 1/2" #4 long beard xr, camo bushnell trs-25 red dot...... heavy but helps soak up some recoil.
I took my little guy out for a sit. he lasted 45 mins in the blind, I was surprised he lasted that long. he at least got to see a hen come in.

Actually I'm sure your hunting ground is very similar to mine. Just hang in there! Your efforts will pay off especially later in season, I usually get mine then, but like to get out first day and hit them before they know what's up lol. Yes we did do an EE transaction I did not realize you hunted close by.
