I live in rural Nova Scotia and for the last 4 weeks I have 8 turkeys roaming around my property, pooping on the deck, digging holes and so on. I am a target shooter and know nothing about hunting and the like. But I want to get rid of them.. what is "officially" the proper way? Shoot them? Got all the hardware required..
I am basically interested in the legal aspect of shooting on my land..thanks.

Will need to see if there is a bylaw that prevents discharge of firearms where you live.

Then it is going to be having the appropriate license for hunting the birds, following all the hunting regulations in regards to proximity of neighbours homes and structures for discharge of firearms and following bag limits

With few exceptions you don't have to follow hunting regulations to control pests that are causing damage to your property. Pest control isn't hunting. That said there has to be legitimate claim that they are causing damage, such as financial harm for killing livestock, damaging crops, etc.

Kind of surprised you can't run them off without killing them, they are notorious for avoiding people. I have 20-30 in my yard several days a week, but they won't hang around long if you go outside.

I do shush them away..5 times a day, 7 days a week. They really love my place and so do I.

But it is annoying, especially early morning you pull the curtains and 8 birds sit on the deck staring at you..

The proper way is to call DNR and have them removed. I don't believe there is a turkey season in NS, so relocating is the right call.

Edit: As quickly as possible, make an excuse to get the DNR conversation moved to electronic (email). That'll be proof of the conversation.. If they don't want to deal with it, you'll have more of a turkey-leg to stand on, if you start using bear bangers, or if turkeys start disappearing (I personally would like to see a season for them in NB, but they'll have to expand their range and numbers, to get that to happen.

Blast them with air horn. They likely find a more peaceful place to crap. Turkeys, like most animals, will go where there is food and where they feel is safe. Eliminate these two factors and they will likely leave

Turkeys that dig holes and come back after being scared off 5 times per day, 7 days per week, for the last 4 weeks....that is a very strange story.

I live on the south shore and have turkeys, sometimes they wander, mainly in breeding season, but do come back. i would ask around and see if anyone close by have turkeys. they don't usually cause any major damage, and should run off when scared, they are very skittish. I do agree about the poop though lol.

In BC you will need to apply for a crop/livestock protection permit from the ministry, but you are still required to follow bag limits, you can't just exterminate flock after flock of geese etc
