Turkey's starting early??

we're feeding corn to 20 birds every morning at the barn door. Is that baiting?:p

I was cutting some firewood the other day and the birds we're hanging around behind the wood pile, lots of calling from the hens.

ya usually i wouldnt say a word when i find an awesome hunting spot, but there is just toooo many turkeys, ppl feeding them all winter then spring comes along and they practically live in ppl's backyards...farmers are gettin p'd off at them, i watch them standing on top of bails of hay ripping the plastic off them, famers are going to start blasting them if they dont get undercontrol....when i walk through the bush the ground is littered with turkey tracks and droppings....EVERYWHERE

My suggestion is to drive north west of the city and start knocking on doors. .

Hey BR. Are you telling everyone to go knock on doors North West of Toronto to keep em from knockin on YOUR door in the North East??
Hey everybody, Big Red has hundreds of turkey in his backyard all the time! He’d love to let you and your friends shoot a few. Pm me and I’ll e-mail you directions and a map to his house. You should show up late at night the day before you want to hunt to ask permission.;)

Well Red, if anyone falls for that at least you'll have some fresh meat on your bait pile. Not to mension all the exercise your dogs will get. :D

And 44fordy... Blastin em off the shelf with your 12g. Priceless!

Anybody know where to hunt these badboys in BC?Looking to make a trip.

My sister lives in Kaslo (central Kootenays) and she tells me them dang birds are everywhere. I'm gonna slide out there in May and try my luck, though I've never hunted turkey. I figure Kootenays in May= spring bear and turkey.

Has anybody here actually hunted turkey? If you have please spell it out for me because I've never done turkey and everything I read tells something different. I figure I need: 12ga Shotgun full choke, full camo on me, Box Call and I should be good ? do ya stalk them or call them in? If I'm gonna drive 5 hours to shoot 1 dang bird I want all the help I can get.

It's not a good idea to stalk turkey's. You sit in full camo and call them in. I use a 12ga with an extra full turkey choke, but I've heard of lots of guys using full chokes. Pattern out the shotgun beforehand so you know what combination of choke and shot works best with your gun.

Pick up some turkey hunting DVDs and some magazines, keep yourself informed, that's pretty much what I do. You'd be surprised just how many tips and strategies you can pick up.

Full camo, 12ga, call of some type (I prefer a peg & slate call) and a hen decoy or two wouldn't hurt either. CALL THEM IN, don't stalk them, you could be stalking another hunter.

Good point I never thought of that. I'll get me a call and pattern my shotgun for what? about 35 yrds? calling anything is my weak point, I spot and stalk when deer , etc hunting, but I guess it's time I learned how to actually sit still longer than 30 mins. Camo is no problem and I gather turks see good, what about scent control? I'll get some books or magazines. thanks. I got me a weekend booked at the end of April and I got my brother-in-law scouting so hopefully I can pull it off, worst case I sit under a tree for 2 days and hang out with family at night.

35 yds is good. Don't worry about scent, they won't smell you, but they can see any movement from 400 yds away. they have a 270 degree field of view, so you might think he's looking away, he's not. they can here you calling from 1/2 mile away too. you don't need to screech it out there, they'll here it.

good luck.

buy 2 decoys. A hen and a jake. have the jake like 3 feet behind the hen like he's following her. Buy a box call and start calling. trust me, when them toms hear ya and come out into the field and see a lil jake with a nice looking hen they will be PISSED

i had 5 toms start to circle my jake decoy last year, right as the biggest one went to take a wack at him i pulled the trigger. They don't have to be fancy, I paid like $20 each for mine like 3 years ago...I should use my turkey decoys when my coyote hunting too, seems to attract a few of them aswell lol
