Turkish 88/05/35

Thanks Tinman!! The only thing I can offer on the bayonet is that I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the Turks scavenged/bought bayonets from other countries. Not sure of anything, but this may be the case here.

That old 88 is sweet rifle. :)

Edit: Now I'll have to check my old chewed up Turk 88 to see if it matches. I bought probably 30+ years ago. I used to shoot reduced/light cast loads with it.

My buddy has a beat up 88/05/35 and I asked him to fish it out and let me know the details on if it matches?
I'll post the results when I find out.

Well took my rifle out shooting today. Just a test fire as I have never shot it before (and I didn't have much ammo). Used 10rds of Portuguese 1972 FNM surplus, which two of the rounds didn't fire (otherwise functioned perfectly). I suspect it was more a case of bad ammo than anything else as the rounds after those two fired just fine. The shots were all on paper, just need to actually take some time to make up some good ammo for it and give it a real testing.

Checked my buddies 88/05/35 out today, complete mix master, the bolt doesn't even match itself. The action is stamped Ankara but it also reads spandau faintly. The funny thing is the date on the action clearly reads "1835" like someone mis stamped it..

As for how they shoot, well, Ive never shot mine so that one is unknown.

My friends drives nails with 150 grain bullets and lightish loads of imr4895.

M38s when in good shape can and will hold 1 minute in my experience. Problem is most have ratty bores and cracked stocks at the recoil lug. With some bedding repairs even the rough bored ones usually shoot.
