my question is. where can a guy find some nice reliable iron sights

What MODEL of Turkish Mauser?

Turkey bought Mausers in 1878, 1887, 1890, 1893 and 1903, plus the 1888s, 1898s and 98AZs they got from Kaiser Bill in the Great War, then they made their own starting in 1938.

And they were all different.

Likely somebody has a decent set of Turkish sights lying around. Lotta guys have butchered these poor old things mercilessly.
.

with my research i did it comes out to be a 1903 large ring long action.. according to williams sights i can use the dove tail mount that was on it and just change it to a better fiber optic front sight and i am going to utalise the Williams rear sight that was on it...

i am putting a scope on it as well but wanted iron sights for back up JIC

Turkish 1903 action was a 98 LARGE RING action but it was a Medium-short action. Also, I am told, the barrel thread was the same as the small-ring actions they had on the 1893s.

I haven't torn one down, so I can't confirm the thread.

Action is definitely shorter than a Standard but not quite so short as the K action. This I HAVE measured.
.

i measured my action to Boyds referance so from the bolt hole infront of the "trap door" to the bolt behind the trigger guard this equaled 7 7/8" and my ring measured 1 3/8"

also there are absolutely no markings on it other than a serial number..
is there any websites/way out there that i can cross reference the serial #?

any ideas?

you got me rethinking now,

i am very close to ordering the new Boyds stock and possibly a timney trigger

but i wanna be sure im ordering the right stuff

The Turk 1903 mausers will fit a regular 98 stock with a bit of modification. I used a 1903 action to build my .257 Roberts because it is an intermediate length action that matches the COL of the Roberts perfectly. Center to center trigger guard screw measurements are the same as a regular 98 but the front receiver ring is longer and will require some inletting around it. A Timney trigger will fit.

The 1903 action is a bit confusing as it is classified as an intermediate length action but has the same screw hole spacing as a standard action. The bolt, receiver opening, and mag is shorter, but by extending the rear of the firing pin, using a longer cocking piece, and longer front ring, they maintaned the overall length of a standard action.

I'm currently building a 8mm Mauser sporter on a 1903 action and sporterized laminate k98 stock as sort of a scout/compact rifle concept out of spare parts I've had kicking around. The only part I'm missing is a bolt body.

so i looked the barrel again and i did find some markings on there its just a couple but here it goes

it had 7 (dot) 91 then the crecent moon "F"

i accidently deleted the photo off my phone

Finally finished "Projecturk"

Extremely hard to see, could you please take a picture without your enormous feet, so that we can actually see the dam rifle? :D:D:D
