Turkish vs Chinese shotguns?

So, there seems to be many fans and haters of both the Chinese 870 copies and the Turkish shotguns .... Many people have been praising the quality of the Turkish guns (especially the Hatsan) as far better than the 870 clones .... What makes them so good? The Hatsans seem to be rising in price; are they really any better than the other Turkish shotguns? Anyone worried about replacement parts? (870 parts are everywhere).

Some Benelli's, Beretta's, Mossberg's, Stoegers and Weatherby shotguns are also made in Turkey.

That probably says something - like, THEY are willing to put their name on a Turkish built gun even though they could undoubtedly have them built cheaper in China.
 
My personal experience has been as follows:

Chinese Shotguns:
870 clone - decent quality, except for finish, but very heavy
single shot "Backpacker" - total garbage

Turkish Shotguns:
870 style pump - well made and light weight
single shot "Backpacker" - total garbage

The is the umpteenth time I have heard this claimed on this forum.

What shotguns are branded Beretta and made in Turkey. Answer: None. Beretta has had some BARRELS (only) made in Turkey for their lowest end semi-autos. And not for every market.

I've also NEVER seen a Benelli made in turkey.

Proof please?

My experience: The Norinco 870 clone (tube fed) is as good as any express, but the stocks suck. By the time you upgrade the stocks, you'll have spent Express money, but the Chinese guns come with shorter barrels than remington will sell you. I have lots of Remingtons, and I've kept one Grizzly 870 clone with 12.5" barrel. It wears hogue stocks and I really like the gun. It works as reliably and smoothly as the express guns, but is not a winglamster. But then, nothing else is!

The mag-fed guns are trash. Not the guns' fault, it's the mags. They have a poor reliability reputation.

I would not buy ANY single shot made in either turkey OR China. Just garbage stuff.

The Turkish guns are based on the 870 design, but have virtually no interchangeable parts. Receivers are usually aluminum, not steel like a real Remington. Some people like the aluminum receivers, they are lightweight and for MOST users are fine. You can shoot out an aluminum receivered 870-style gun, but I don't know anyone who's shot out a steel one.

FWIW, I don't buy Turkish when I can get American for around the same money. And parts for the Remington stuff are REALLY REALLY REALLY easy to get. Same goes for accessories.
 
Certainly, the 870 is the king of accessories and barrel options, but I always see people commenting on here how great their Hatsan or Turkish shotgun is.
 
I have (2) Hatsans and like them just fine. Great value for the money. As for their prices rising, you must have missed SFRC's recent sales. The pricing was incredible. I'd have bought several of them but I have far too many shotguns that see little to no use. It was a great opportunity for those in need.

Unless it's a specialty kind of shotgun, I'll buy 870's over Chinese clones any day.
 
Do you guys have any idea how long turkish shotgun makers have been doing OEM work for sold called American made gun companies!?
Almost 30 years.

Most of the Turkish pumps are based of the Franchi pump guns of the late 70,s early 80,s just like fabarm.
Are for parts with 8 different brands being imported into canada with 70% compatability on parts
Parts and repair is a non issue.
The truth about quality and turkish shotgun is this.
They are all the same product. It's how the gun companys turn them out and at what price point as to what the fit and finish is.
As for China v turkish. The QC on the Turkish gun in 10x what the Chinese are.
Are they perfect? No

But tell me where so u get a 14 in Chrome lined barrle with 3 chokes tubes raised ramp sight goos stock and recoil pad for less than $300?
I have been building custom combat shotguns for 25yrs and as much as I love my Remington .I'm really diging these short pumps
We have sold 100,s ofcthem
We will continue to make more aftermarket parrs for them

Id still buy a Weatherby, or Winchester "made in Turkey" shotgun..... but thats about it. Ive had nothing but bad luck and disappointment when it comes to Turkish shotguns. Its a boat i'll never board again.
 
Prefer Italian made shotguns, Fabarm to be precise for pumps. Would take a Benelli M4 if I needed a semi.

Owned one turk made shotgun, turned out to be a POS.

Corwin arms was selling them a year ago for like $450.

Great responses from everyone.

I've read that there are like only three factories making all the Turkish shotguns, but that not all the parts are compatible between the different brands being produced. It's reassuring that S&J will continue making accessories.

There are some interesting Turkish models too like the lever actions and the escort defender with a funky heat shield. What about quality between the different Turkish brands? Relatively, the same?
 
I have no direct experience with Turkish guns other than some friends who own them. They seem to have more problems the more complex the design, just like anything else I guess...

I have owned all kinds of pump shotguns over the past 30 years, and am now down to just one now, it is for hiking as I don't hunt.

Yup gone are my American 870s and I kept my 12.5" Grizzly pump. Why, its all steel, never jammed, and is a tank!

So I say if you buy something, buy something simple, clone or not.

I let everyone shoot my Grizzly as it generates conversion, and after god knows how many rounds just gets smoother and smoother and never misses a beat. :)

I have changed the stock and forend, love the factory ghost rings, I trust this gun with my family's safety when hiking, as its all steel no alloys here!

While not making any value judgements about your views of things as a retailer of Turkish shotguns, I will say that I can phone Gravel and they have almost 100% of every Remington 870 part in stock 365 days a year and over 14,000,000 870's have been sold in North America. Virtually all my local dealers have the most common 870 parts in stock all the time (choke tubes, extractors, springs, safeties, followers, stock sets, extra barrels, etc.)

I would humbly suggest to you (and anyone else) that comparing turkish shotgun parts availability to Remington 870 parts availability is like comparing a 1980's LADA to a Honda Civic. Sure, you can still get LADA parts if you hunt around. That does not make their parts a "non issue".

Completely agree, and thats why I have something that takes 870 parts. :)

well thats not what i said.
im not saying your going to walk n to 9 of or 10 gun shops and find a firing pin for a turkish shotgun.
what i said was with over 9 importers of turkish shot guns , its not an issue to get parts for them.
i own over 30 remington shotguns, and work on 100,s fo them a year, im always waiting on parts from Gravle, i just has to way 4 week for some police exstractor.
the 870 is the best pump action gun even made, there is no doubt about that
