Turning 870 into a trap gun...

Interesting project and comments made here all seem good to me. I've ended up doing all of them (and more) on one gun or another (like most everyone else here). Still, maybe you've done this, but the first thing I would do is pattern the gun at the distances I'm shooting and I would test it to see where it's point of impact is too. I wouldn't just use paper either. My personal preference for the last point is to have at least 10 or 20 shots at station 7 in skeet to see what the breaks are like. All this will cost you is some shells and some time. You will learn a lot about yourself and your gun and you can make changes that fit how your gun shoots. Fred

The 870 is not a shotgun to be trifled with in any clas on an ATA line , it does not matter if the other person is shooting a K gun or a P gun.
They are dam fine shotguns.

Yes sir and if the guy using it is 2 years older than dog poop like me and shoving reloaded blue peters or rem RXP's in the chamber you best lock on your hat and focus since there is some serious competition on the line.:D

insert trap friendly ammo = conversion complete

That says it all right there, one of the guys at our club shoots an 870,28in. full choke vent rib and breaks 25 on a regular basis and has won our king of the club shoot more than once, and we do have some consistant 25 guys there with their high dollar guns that get beat by the 870 more than they would like to admit......

I have used it at ATA before and it is not too shabby. You are all right, I guess I got a little carried away. I may look into some of the cheap modifications suggested and go from there, one day in the future when I am rich and more serious Ill buy another gun.

Fenix mentioned trap friendly ammo, what would you consider trap friendly ammo? and remember cheap is the key lol

I had good luck with the challenger actually, mine gun was jamming as mentioned in another forum because of swelling issues with no brass shells, those were winchester super targets and universals. The challengers would stick in the receiver but I could still open the action, and much smoother pumping, so they are definitely an improvement.

Tell your man to mind his own biz. I regularly shoot as well as one of our top shooters with my old wingmaster. Let them get out a bit farther an lead a bit more and turn them into powder. Have fun!
