HWally, try talking to a few autobody painters in your area about a car finish called Endura. It's a base colour-clear overcoat that can be done in anything from a dead flat to high gloss result. I had some footpeg brackets on my street motorcycle done about 3 years ago. It's subjected to regular scuffing from my riding boots and so far whenever I see a scuff mark it turns out to be some plastic or other stuff from the boots and wipes right off. The total damage after 3 years of riding is a couple of buffed marks that slightly changed the sheen of the matt top clear coat. No signs of wearing through even the top coat so far.

The best part of the Endura paint option is that you can have any of the car colours including mettalics. If you want something outside of the DuraKote or ArmorKote lineup this may be an option. However it does mean releasing the gun parts to the paint shop. Not sure how that would work out within our Canadian laws.

Oh, if you do the Endura option be sure to just leave all the parts alone for a week. While it's as tough as nails once hardened I did manage to put one small ding in my newly painted parts getting them back home the very day after they were painted. I think this will apply to any painted option. Baked finishes are better in this regard but I'd still treat the stuff with kid gloves for the first few days. Until ALL the solvent in the finish evaporates away there's bound to be some residual softness.

Hmmm - I'll ask around for that.

I wonder if you could just chill out in the paint shop while they painted it... probably could if a case of beer found itself in there too...:p

the full range of duracoat is availlable in canada through fabsports.ca
great stuff and durability is excellent. I have an m14 with a bolt that is duracoated and it shows very little wear at the contact points. good stuff.

Although we don't do AR stocks we have done stocks in everything from pink to purple many time over. Who are we to judge? We also did the stock for a pink breast cancer gun.

I have sprayed endura for over 20 years now and its a polyurethane finish and tough as ol hell once its hardened. Few years back they couldnt match all the pearl paints out there but my buddies ex g/f is a chemist for them and they got past that problem.

Check out the photo gallery and look for a thread called Barbie goes green with envy from about the first of december. In it are 2 different ruger .22 stocks in tri coat..( Candie colors) I shot both of these( did the paint jobs on em ) and right now working on a m14 stock which is gonna be candy apple brandy wine...just in time for squeak season me hopes...:D
