I'm at my dad's camp on the French River. I'm currently enjoying a glass of rum and tending to a couple of slabs of ribs on the barbecue. I'm surrounded by the smell of Red Pines and cooking pork. We went out for a boat ride this afternoon to check out some of the terrain. I've never hunted here before. I didn't have time to do any pre-season scouting so the first time that I'll see this country will be tomorrow morning with a Winchester 1886 in my hands. I'm planning on sitting for a few hours until about 10:30AM and then we will hit a few islands. There are only 3 of us so I don't think the drives will be too effective but you never know. I'll give you the play by play from my Blackberry.

Good for you, I'd love to be at a hunting camp now awaiting the morning hunt.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't think cell service should be available at a hunting camp:D

The camp we used to go to was on a large lake and all the camps used to communicate with cb. Good times, coordinating with all the other camps on sightings, kills and strategies for the morning, usually talking while half cut too!

Lots of fun!

I have all of my gear laid out and am enjoying a nice bottle of forty creek barrel select.....

I hunt alone because I like it that way... I have 3 tree stand locations with 6 trail cams as well as a bush that I reserve for stalking all season long after breakfast just because I can't sit still all afternoon.... I also hop on the rhino and head around to all the other hunt camps just to see what they are up to... it's a magical time of year... my 7 year old is here and tending camp with dad.... (I guess I can't hunt alone forever).... ;)

Ready to go. I was up at the camp today dropping stuff off and cleaning up. Out first thing in the morning with my son tagging along for the day.

Can't wait.

just packed up my lunch:mad:......for work tomorrow:mad:...
just started a new job so no weeks of hunting for me:(..
be safe and have fun you fogduckers:D..
i,ll be out on the weekend:D

I'm just washing my hunting clothes. Stands and blinds are in place and I spotted 4 deer in front of one of the blinds today. It's looking good for the AM. Good luck guys!

Went out this morning and sat for a few hours and didn't see anything. I then got up and hiked around a hill toward my dad and his friend Brian. I heard a deer wheezing at me twice and I jumped a doe and fawn. I saw two flags and they ran right past Brian. We saw a few scrapes too. I think I might throw up my portable stand and hunt the scrape line we found. We're just having a burger for lunch and we'll be heading out to dog punch a small island.

attaboy sloo... butcher my own and will wait until i get the one I got this morning done before I go back out.... got my rattle bag ready and time for some trophy hunting just for fun....

I had 3 deer go by about 75 yards away. 2 were does and the third one was running when I spotted him and stopped behind some trees. I watched through the scope but I couldn't see horns. What an exciting opening day. I saw 6 deer in total. Tomorrow is another day. We'll see what happens.

High wind yesterday and today. Dad saw one deer yesterday but no horns. Lots of rain. We're getting ready to head out and give it another try.

This afternoon we did a drive on an island that met with the mainland and I was hidden behind a tree. Brian came on the radio and said that he had seen a bear. A few minutes later, I met Mr. Bear at about 10 feet. He was just trying to get off the island but it was pretty exciting. I'll try and post the video on youtube when I get home. I sat in my stand for the evening and had four does walk past my stand but no bucks. I'll be hunting tomorrow morning and that will be it. Lots of scrapes and rubs. We'll see what happens.
