Two deer,One shot

Hunting on an island off the coast of V.I. I shot a 2pt BT and a domestic sheep gone wild with a Win.94 30-30. one bullet.

Two years ago I shot a nice whitetail doe when she stepped out of the bush. I dropped her with one shot, but there was two dead deer when I walked over to her. The second doe was smaller, but I had no choice but to use my second doe tag.

When I was a teenager, we went antelope hunting with out 2 non-trophy antelope draws. One hops up on a knoll, just as the other guy shoots, another jumps up behind it. Two antelope one shot.

Nope. But if that happened to me I would be getting my follow up shot into the second deer quite quickly. Looks like he spined it.

Seen it twice, but not by me...Doe, and fawn both times.

What I did see when I was young(too young to carry a rifle), was my uncle shoot 7 deer with 9 shots with his 351WSL. All the deer came out at the same time chased by dogs, and tried to cross a small piece of grown up pasture at about 70yds.

When the deer were skinned one deer had been hit twice, so he only had one miss. Still a big topic at camp come hunting story time.

Not with big game, but I did get two ducks with one shot once.
"Double duck!"

That's fun when it happens. I've had it happen a couple of times. Last year I even dropped 3 with one shot. To be honest though, one of them was not recovered.

My uncle and a hunting buddy had Anterless moose tags on a draw. They found a cow and calf and each took one. After the shot, both cow and calf got up, so they shot again... Yep different set of cow and calf!!!

They did find another group of hunters that agreed to tag the second set.

Three years ago a friend of the family shows up and offers my dad a whole barren ground caribou, shot in he northern Yukon. Buddy was hunting and accidentally put down two animals with one round from his 30-06. Luckily they were apparently standing in basically the same position, one behind the other, so both hits were solid boiler hits. He had two tags, but only needed one animal. Damn that was very good caribou meat.

sealhunter;
While I've never witnessed it, there were three instances in my family where it took place.

They all took place decades ago and two of the hunters didn't have binoculars with them - the hunts taking place in the late '60's if memory serves.

Anyway the first was two whitetail does standing about 20' apart, one directly behind the other, with a .250 Savage - using whatever factory ammo would have been available at the local, small town Saskatchewan hardware store.

The second was again two whitetail does standing in a similar manner as above, but this time with a .303 that would have been firing factory ammo purchased at the same place.

The last was a mulie buck with a doe that walked up in front of it when the hunter pulled the trigger. I believe he was using a 7mm Weatherby with Partitions, but I might be wrong about the bullet type.

Where we hunt here in southern BC we can bump into moose, elk, mountain sheep, black bears, whitetails, mulies, range cattle, cowboys on horseback and even the occasional mountain goat or grizzly thrown in for fun.

On top of species regulations, we have to ascertain gender and then have point restrictions on the mulies, elk and moose. Thus we do a lot of glassing before any gunfire takes place. ;)

I recall one night where we had 3 of us glassing a big 3 x 3 mulie with two spotting scopes and 3 sets of binoculars on him at various times, arguing over whether the little sticker on one side made the 1" length required to be considered a legal point - which would have made him a 3x4 and legal.

Needless to say, no firm consensus was reached by the group, so the buck walked and likely died of old age years later taking into consideration where we were!

All the best to you this long weekend sealhunter.

Regards,
Dwayne

I've never seen that happen ... but my buddy "catworks" here on CGN thought he shot one walrus on an icepan once ... only to pull up to the icepan and find two walrus dead ... HAHA ... lots of work cutting them up he said. :D
