It shouldn't be long until I get my R-PAL mailed to me. I already purchased two pistol cases, which were on sale.

Now, I need two handguns. I like either semi-autos or revolvers.

I have about a $1000 budget for this.

I came across a few which new from store cost just under, or a little over $400. Including GSG's and Norincos.

I do need one in .22 that I can shot a lot, and probably one in a small center-fire calibre.

Feel free to list any which may cost somewhere in this bracket whether from store, or on the EE.

Try to sell me your favorite sub $500 handgun!

I hear that the sig 226 clone and cz85b clones by norinco are their best handgun copies and they definitely fit your budget. Im picking up the cz clone myself shortly.

You can't go wrong with the GSG 1911. Its a great .22lr and eats anything that I feed it with no issues. At least thats been my experience. The Tokareva TT-33 is a lot of fun as well. If you are looking for a 9mm I have read some good thing about the Norinco NP29.

New smith & wesson sdve 9mm can be had for less than $400. You wont beat that. I haven't owned one, but they get good reviews and apparently are quite similar to a glock. Ive owned the norinco 1911 and Sig copy. They functioned fine, but they do carry a certain stigma... I was much happier with the more popular name brands when I could afford them and probably wont buy another norinco pistol. Just my experience. I'm by no means a brand snob, but do like the fit and finish of the stuff not made in china better.

Ruger MKIV and a tokarev

This^^^ got my Ruger for $300, Zastava in 9mm for $279, picked up a minty s&w model 10 for $200 all at the same time and had $$$ left over for club dues and ammo. BTW... I can count but 3 will always be better than 2.

The .22 you should get a S&W Victory. Better price point than the Ruger Mk IV. If the $1K budget is hard, look at a Norinco centerfire option like the 1911.

This guy gets it :)

For 9mm, consider a tokarev, or a norinco tok clone. You can get an inexpensive kit to swap back and forth between 9mm and 7.62x25.

Two pistols for the price of one. 9mm is fun and relatively cheap to feed. 7.62 is even more fun, and even cheaper to feed (when you buy a crate of surplus) It's also pretty powerful, matching the muzzle energy of a 357 magnum, but shoots flatter than almost any other pistol caliber, save the fiveSeven. Difficult to shoot accurately for a beginner though. Pretty snappy.

If you've got big hands, be sure to get a model with the "tokagript"(sp?) though. It fits more comfortably that the standard grip. Still a touch small though. I'm 6'4", and while it fits my hand comfortably, I sure wouldn't want it any smaller.

I got this one on sale from a (then) site sponsor for $189. Conversion kits can be had for $99 or less.

Ill put another vote towards the Girsan my local store had them new for 525 so you should be able to get a used one for under 500 no problem . I love shooting mine It's better than any of the Norinco's I have bought.

Lots of Ruger 22's for sale second hand as people trade up to the MKIV. A better built gun than the GSG in my experience. The difference is that you wil have to go to a used Ruger to get down to the same price as a new GSG.

For a centerfire pistol take a good look at the Tradex site. Particularly if you have any interest in military surplus pistols. They are always excellent to deal with and have several package deals with a gun and a case of ammo for one price.

Good thread!

Get a .22 and 9mm IMO a good smart combo. Even 22 is getting expensive to feed unfortunately.

GSG1911 is 22 thats accurate enough and pretty fun to shoot. If you want more classic gun buckmark or Ruger will work too.
For 9mm in that price range can't beat Girsan Beretta copy. Compact model is an awesome gun well balanced gun. It shoots bang on to the POA. I got one just to try out and figured I'll flip it a week later but it's still in the safe because I love that thing as much as my Glock or Beretta or CZ.

A couple of months ago I picked up the Girsan Regard and FNH FNS-9 from my LGS for $1100. They were kind enough to give me a package deal when I asked. I quite enjoy both and if you can find either on EE they should fit into your budget as the centrefire component of your collection. I haven't put a lot of rounds through them yet but I feel the FNS-9 shoots better but I sure love how that steel Girsan feels in my hand.

GSG 1911-22 for a cheap plinker, Sig 1911-22 is the same gun, so either of them will work, Sigs are on sale at some site sponsors for $350, and a FN FNS9LS, got mine for $499 on sale, however the price has risen, but you can still find them on sale for $599 or so, or get a used one off the EE for slightly less. Both are great handguns and right on your budget.
Where are you located? I'm sure someone local would offer to let you try out theirs, or ask questions at your local range, you would be surprised at how many people would offer to let you try their handgun out :)

Used ruger 22lr, mk2 or 3 or 22/45, thos things will eat any ammo you can feed them.
Used Girsan, Beretta clone, they work good and very close to Beretta quality.

This.... with one caveat... occasionally a used beretta will pop up for around $500-$600 bucks, and they are fantastic guns.
