Two guns while hunting?

Hello all, I was wondering if it is legal to have two firearms with you while you're hunting. Since I do not own a combo gun, although i wish i had the bread for one, I want to take my shotgun out with me while i'm yote hunting i case i see any rabbits. Now I will have my stevens .223 for yotes and im concerned that I may run into trouble if i also have a shotgun slung over my shoulder. Does anyone know what the deal is here, I imagine there is no issue with it but then again with our laws one can never be to sure.
BTW I am in Ontario if that makes a difference as far as hunting regs go.

Obviously the Ontario regs are the ones you need to check. I can tell you that here in NL, it is prohibited to have more than one firearm with you unless those additional firearms are unloaded and cased.
 
Don't recall any prohibition on it here - of course there are 'waterfowler' restrictions on more than one shotgun, but if we're talking rifles and a shotgun i don't think there's a problem.

Check your local regs and maybe call the ministry.
 
You would have to contact your local MNR as the restrictions are for game hunting...since rabbits are not a game species and I do not know if you require a license to hunt 'yotes........actually a big grey area again...

Rabbits require a license to hunt small game in ontario. Also many townships require additional permits to hunt them.
 
There was some discussion about this awhile ago. I believe the consensus was that you can carry two firearms, in Ontario, as long as only one is loaded. I tend to use a shotgun and carry a few slugs and a rabbit in distress call with me while rabbit hunting incase I feel the desire to try and call in a 'yote.



You should definately check with the MNR though.
 
I looked through the regs and cannot find anything saying that its not allowed, but I dont want to overstep myself. I would also be dissapointed to find that its allowed as long as the second gun isnt loaded because that seems awful useless to me. I guess ill call the MNR tomorow and find out.
 
its a pain in the arse carrying two guns but i still do it. carry the 12g for rabbit, grouse, etc and have the 17hmr or 22-250 on my back for jacks, yotes and crows in fields.

asked a family friend who works for the MNR and she said its ok as long as only one gun is loaded. she said that you could technically take all of your non restricted guns hunting as long as only one is loaded at any given time. made sense to me.

whether its the law or not is a different story...

For the trip, the vehicle is loaded down with firearms like we're going on patrol outside Kandahar, but when it comes to "boots on the ground" hunting, only one firearm.
