Well, I took my CORE in mid august and mailed my completion to the government office in maple ridge on August 20th... should I be expecting to have my liscence back this year, or should I expect to keep living off of discounted meat the free factory 97B processed stuff this year?

Secondly, for BC hunting regs, regions 1-4 and 1-5 for example, it says the limit is 2 bucks and one antlerless. Does the limit apply to total deer taken, or total bucks and total antlerless taken separately?

To phrase another way, with a 2 buck limit, and 1 antlerless, does that mean I could have three deer in a freezer at the end of the season, or two? Goodness knows I don't intend to try for more than one, but it's something I was wondering.

As soon as you get your BCWF card (which states that you passed your CORE) go apply for a hunter #. I think it took 2 weeks to get mine.

You can have three deer in a season, as long as you don't exceed any bag limits
in any regions. I live in 3-26, so I will use it for an example because I have it committed to memory:

Bag limit for whitetail bucks is 1
Bag limit for mule deer bucks is 1
No antlerless harvesting is allowed (without a LE draw).

So to get the third buck, you have to travel to another region (I use region 8) and harvest another deer there.

When my daughter passed CORE, her & I took her card to the Gov't office here in town and they set her up with her BC Hunter Number right then & there. We then drove to the "toy store" and picked up her license & tags (among other things) All done within a couple hours.

Thanks! That makes sense.

That is true, however I don't live near a government office; how odd that both victoria and vancouver don't have one.... the closest one in both cases is at least an hours drive, usually much more.

when i got my hunter number i was living in nanaimo and i got it at the same place i took my driving lisence test the computers were down but they didn't even need them to issue my number

Don't kid yourself, LOL. Even a nice blacktail buck wont see you through the winter. Chances of getting two is excellent if you still hunt the bedding bluffs
that bachelor herds hang out on.
I have gotten 2 blacktails almost as often as I have gotten one???!

i agree with david doyle 100%
Having consistantly bagged my 2 , region 2 bucks every year of the past whole bunch :D . Early season region 2 blacktail (sept 20 to Oct 12 like clockwork) has been very good to me, creepin into the bush and sittin motionless on the deer trails before dawn. 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. has been my "peak success" time. I'd say 5 out of the last 8 hunts saw me harvesting both bucks in one weekend and of those weekends..... 2 of them were .... 2 shots.... 2 bucks..... within seconds...... quite the rush :D
Last season i opted for one region 2 buck, a fat 4pt, and headed to region 3 to fill my LEH doe tag with a nice mature mulie doe. I got lucky and managed a trophy of a mulie buck the same trip..... rounding out my 3 deer bag limit.

All that meat lasted until first week of july, eating venison meals at least twice a week, feeding 3 people and often more.

You can take either 2 bucks in region 1 or a buck and a doe.The doe has to be taken in the shotgun only zone with shot only,no single projectile. All of Vancouver Island is region one but has seperate management zones. To get you third deer, you have to leave region one.Read the regs front to back and look at all the maps pertaining to your region that you're hunting.

shoot me a p.m. in mid october H Wally ..... there's always room for one more in the deer camp for any buck season in region 3.... I don't mind showin ya around a lil ;)

That is the spirit!

I can't wait till H wally is as into hunting as he is his other gun hobbies. Should make for some great threads.

P.S coastal blacktails are IMHO god's gift to deer hunting. consistently wonderful table fare, not too big to drag around abit and you get to hunt in some absolutely gorgeous scenery. Plus the coast is the easiest place to walk quietly on the face of the planet.
Another thing that i crucial are good binoculars and be looking 50-100yds away in the bush/ferns/salal and deep in the shadows.

A hint for region 1 and 2 blacktails is to get a little boat, anything even a sea kayak, there are a lot of deer to be had if you can get a few or 5 hundred yards across water.

Have fun with it.
