Hey folks, finishing up a couple more builds. The first is a Savage MKII FV-SR (LR)... I built this one specifically for the CCI Quiet LR load, it is going to be my small game gun... it is not disappointing me at 30 yards with the Quiets! :D

I did the following;

- Boyd's SS Evolution stock in Royal color (purple)
- DIP Bottom metal and one piece scope rail
- Dura Sight Z2 rings
- Ross Schuler muzzle brake
- Hawke Varmint SF 3-12X44mm scope with 1/2 Mil-Dot reticle
- G6 picatinny rail and UTG bipod II

The second gun is a MKII FV in Hornady Mach II (HM2). Here is what I did with this one;

- Boyd's Rimfire Varmint Thumbhole stock in Applejack
- Barrel cut/crowned/threaded and Ross Schuler brake installed
- Bolt handle cut and threaded and Bill's Tactical bolt knob in Silver Vein installed
- DIP inlet bottom metal, Savage TG
- DIP one piece rail
- BSA Contender 6-24X40mm SF MD scope with Dura Sight Z2 rings
- G6 picatinny rail installed on forearm with UTG Bipod II

She shoots pretty good with Hornady V-Max... still breaking it in, I will post groups and more info later.

Hey Hoyt~where did you pick-up the Hawke Varmint SF? I'm looking for that exact scope for my Anschutz 1450. I've never seed one "in the flesh" but have read that the reticle is really fine, and the glass clear/crisp.

I see a number of these guns on this Site, personally I do not see the attraction to them. But just my opinion, guess it's like beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Feel free to post what YOU find beautiful in a firearm... and you may use this thread to do so... if that works for you.

i just picked one up from D&L airguns. nice and clear crosshairs are a little thick on the mill-dot but i am happy i get to play with the target turrets.

Doesn't the muzzle-break kind of defeat the purpose of shooting the Quiet loads? Wouldn't it have been a better idea to go with one of a longer barrels since we can't use a can here?

It is a misconception that muzzle brakes make a gun louder... that is incorrect... what they do is direct more of the sound laterally, which means that the noise "perceived" (but not actual) by the shooter may be greater... that is not my concern however... I am interested in lowering the noise perceived by game animals and other hunters, so lateral dispensation of the gases and sound is fine with me.

+1, I'm also interested in knowing where you got the DIP products from, didn't think they shipped to canada.

I would like to know why you went with the 17 HM2 chambering on the second rifle???

I have never owned one but have often wondered why a person would choose it over the more popular and powerful 17 HMR. There must be some valid reason or you would have not chosen it. Just curious why the 17 HM2, I owned a couple HMRs and was happy with them, for my next rimfire I want to get a .22 Mag (cause I have 3 boxes of shells and no gun) but currently only have a couple of .22LRs.

Perhaps you can convince me to get a 17 HM2??

I can answer that question with 3000 words;

In case you missed it... those are all HMR's!

To continue the explanation; Once you try HM2 you never regret it! It is a great little round... the best squirrel/rabbit caliber ever... and super accurate. All for a little over half the price of HMR... what's not to love??? :)
