And they both came to me saying they have to wait for their gun license before buying a bow as its "falls under a firearm". She made it clear they needed their PAL before buying a bow.

I'm sure they both wouldn't have misunderstood the instructor..

We are going to basspro this weekend and getting their "illegal bows". Haha

They were given the wrong info. They must have passed the PAL course to get their hunting licence and that is it.

Not sure what part of the country where that applies but in AB you need to pass a hunters ed course to be eligible to hunt, and a holder of pal/pol card or under direct supervision of someone who has one to handle a firearm. If bow hunting no pal/pol is needed

You don't need a PAL for hunter's license in ON either. Only need to Pass the Ontario Hunter Safety Test.
You can hunt (even gun hunt) without owning a firearm; bow, pellet gun, or borrow from someone when you go hunting with them.

You need a PAL to buy a crossbow, not a regular bow , doh!
I believe that is what it states in the firearms act anyways.

I just bought an Excalibur 380 crossbow and no PAL was required. Possession and Acquisition(PAL), Possession Only(POL), These are for guns only. Hunter safety course gets you an outdoor card with a number used to purchase hunting licences. In Ontario anyway!

My son went in for his RPAL and the instructor put forth that " Hunting with a .303 br LE is only legal if you use a 5 rd magazine"
Yeah, sure teach...you know all

You don't and never have required a PAL to buy a crossbow. The feds wanted to include them originally but it was fought and stopped.

In what Province is this that one needs to have completed their firearms Lic. course in order to get a Hunting Lic.?
Here in BC you do not need a firearms course to get their Hunter Number Card.
Even during the heyday of the Allan Rock Gun Registry one could buy a compound bow and go hunting with the proper Hunting Lic. requirements.
As for the story about an instructor holding up a .30 Cal and saying it was for a .22 what was your point, the absurdity of that statement is just that absurd.
Before heading out and buying an archery set, you should do some internet searching on tips and choosing shooting speed arrows .
Tight Groups,
Rob

my local walmarts all have signs up saying they now require a PAL for the purchase of a crossbow.

It struck me as odd, because I had not heard of any recent changes in the Firearms Act or anything else. (This has started happening in the last 6-9 months at most I think?)
