My preference is to have multiples of guns. I don't always, but only because I can't always commit another $500 or $1000 at any given moment.
It is so if one breaks, I have an identical spare with holster/mags/etc ready to go.
I have done this a lot with rifles as well. At one time I had six M14s...two long range, identical setup, two shorties, and two in factory config.
I don't shoot much .308 anymore so I only have one left. But anything I'm shooting a lot of, I try to have multiples ready to go in case I need them.
On the other hand I know I take a fairly different approach to guns than most. I have no interest in collecting stuff at all and am perfectly happy with a few handguns and carbines, say, 2-3 ARs and 2-3 Glocks. Having all kinds of individual stuff just doesn't really interest me.
