I have recently purchased an Sks rifle. What kind of goodies ie; addons, accesories, etc can I purchase for this rifle. I would love to hear everyones good and bad experiences with the rifle. Also do you know where a person could purchase a m1 Garand?
thanks all.

1-2" Butt pad is not a bad investment either. Bring the length of pull to fit for modern , less bulky clothing. Without permanently alter a classic rifle. Other than that, I don't think the sks needs anything. It's perfect the way it is. Maybe a peep sight to replace the rear iron for a more precision aim. Sksman.com is a good place to start looking. But the stock irons work just fine for 200 yard at a 10" plate. The gun is more accurate than I could shoot it.

For the SKS, do a search - tons of threads.

For Garands, try the Equipment Exchange. There's a couple on there right now (both knocked about cheapish, and more well preserved and expensive). Some of the sponsor shops might have one or two as well.

Be careful to not fall in the trap "more is better" , somes will put a ton of accessories and after they realize that was not a good idea..... Many full loaded sks's end for sale on the EE..... I must admit that i'm a "hector" i prefer my sks's without any mods, nobody is perfect.....:p

Best thing in the world to improve an SKS' performance is time on the range.

I give you the iron-clad-gunnutz-guarantee that working your way through at least a 1/2 case and learning your rifle's quirks will improve accuracy faster than add-ons.

If you're going the Mall Ninja pistol grip dust-cover scope route 'cause it looks cool and you have a few hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket, that's cool too ;) We promise not to razz you too badly.

Try the rifle out in stock trim first, you'll be surprised.

Garands? If you don't have EE access already, get it. No recent imports, so you're buying privately. Expect to pay north of 900 for a GOOD shooter, higher for quality. Know your rifle before you fork over that kind of $$$ tho - lots of variables to consider.

Lots of threads regarding the Garand on the MILSURP forum, SKSes are RED RIFLES... ADMIN FTW!

1-2" butt pad extension was the best and only thing I did. I like those iron sights as is. As mentioned, range time.

^^^ what he said and that's the set up I have. Butt pad and a Very accurate sks. I laught in my head at those who tacticool their 40's rifle. By the time u add a stock, for grip , detatchable mag, you be at cz858 price range. Which is far more tacticool than any sks could ever be in stock form. Sks is a beautiful piece of equipment, most here would appreciate them they way they are: an over stocked weapon for a war that never happened and a quality piece of history for 200 bucks . :)

Honest truth be told I like the feel of iron sights anyways :)
I agree with statements being said that the best mod for an sks is putting rounds through it and knowing your rifle inside and out and getting very accurate that makes all the difference.
I will do some research on the butt pad as well. (sounds interesting)
as for the more tactical feel i dont think that plays well for an sks in my mind I love the raw look of this rifle as it is.
I do however like adding accessories here and there to my 870 :)

As for the EE I am still waiting approval for a mod. In due time I hope to be cruising the exchange threads for goodies. Hopefully a garand I have wanted one since I was a young lad :)
thanks guys

I found the 1-2" butt pad allowed me to shoulder the rifle more comfortably so the sight picture was better. Without that 1-2" extension I found it awkward to line up with the factory iron sights. That butt pad was all about getting the sight plane optimized (for me anyways).

Where does one find a butt pad for the sks? I didn't search very hard to be honest, but both sksman and wolverine supplies don't seem to have them.

Definitely a simple truth there. However, you are the one who paid for it and you are the one using it, so if "tacticalizing" it is something you want to do, don't let these guys push you around ;)
