Howdy folks,

My girlfriend's SKS has Two recoil lugs in the grip. We're wondering if anyone knows about this? Was it issued like this? Or is this a result of repair work/refurbishment?

Thanks!

I was wondering that as well, but we bought it from a store that had received it from an importer. So my impression is, even if issued this would have to be a "Factory" bubba prior to refurb and storage. Just my thoughts, but you are probably right.

The 2 cross bolts are stock repairs or "re-enforcement" as they are not even close to where the recoil lug is.
The recoil lug is the square bar that the bolt locks into. Then its transferred to the stock via the shoulder on the underside of the reciever and to the rear of the receiver into the wrist. I think most stocks don't even have contact at the shoulder so all the force goes out the back. Faster production I would assume. So there may be some splitting in the stock where the reciever stops and the first (or forward) bolt is. If it was glued and screwed it should be strong enough to shoot but closer inspection with the bolts and rifle removed is warranted.

Its not a common repair, but not super rare - I've seen a few of those over the last couple years. The Russians were expert at wood repairs, and they must have liked your stock. The repair has nothing to do with "recoil lugs".
