1) we had 2X 20 gauge shotgun shells not fire at the range last week. First time since I've been licensed that that's happened. I'm could tape "SURPRISE" to them and throw them in the trash I guess. Failing that, what does one do with dud shotgun shells?

2) Cooey 12 gauge. My son bought it from his teacher for $80 and had some fun with it til we got him a new remington. Then I bought it from my son for $80. First time I took it to the range, every time I shoot it it, the barrel breaks open. Vendor tells me there's no warranty. Any thoughts on where/how to get that fixed in SW ontario? I know it's worthless, but it's a nice gun that I like and I'm reluctant to part with it.

Give the shells to someone else, some shotguns have longer firing pins that will fire them off.
Whenever I encounter I cut open the shell and reuse the parts for reloading. Usually the primers just seated too deep.

No warranty on the Cooey because they are old, old, old. They are also heck of a nice gun.

Most likely the problem is that the Locking Bolt has become worn. The part is still available, I think about $8.

Putting it IN can be fun, but nothing you can't do on bench in the basement.

Once you have that replaced, out a dab of non-freezing lithium grease on the new Locking Bolt, another in the recess on the bottom of the Barrel where it locks in.

Problem solved!

Good luck!

dont bring anything to cops. give to another shooter to dispose/reuse. When I find ammo at range, I take it apart, burn powder, and reuse lead for my cast shotgun slugs

my range has a dud box so if something like that happens it goes into a thick steel plate box with a hole cut in the top to drop the duds in... your range may have something similar

The Cooey's two mating surfaces are not matching. The "locking bolt" is not engaging the V-notch in the barrel lump enough, so the recoil is forcing it open. Easy fix for someone who is knowledgeable on these shotguns.
