Hey guys,
Just curious as to whether or not anyone knows anything about the two tapped holes at the back left hand side of the action of my rem 700 police in 338 LM? I have read that they are for iron sights, but why don't other model 700's, more in-particular Rem 700 P models in other calibers not have these? Not that they create any problem or issues, more just curious than anything. I can post pictures shortly.

Cheers,
Jon

Not sure if your familiar with this type of peep sight. It is used as a back up in addition to a scope mounted on the top of the rem action. As a left handed shooter you wouldn't really be able to see the peep sights as it is mounted on the left hand side of the action... It would take some very uncomfortable and interesting neck bending/kinking haha. The peep sight is not mounted ontop of the action in this set up.

The holes are to accomodate a sight mounting block - ala Redfield Int'l,Olympic or Palma. That block will also do for mounting many of the current generation target sights like Warner, Centra. With a non Monte Carlo stock like the PSS models have a southpaw could use the sight . The top of the barrel at the muzzle end needs to be d&ted for a front sight.
Cheers
